IELTS Essay on Environmental Issues and Solutions Sample 1

Essay 1: Environmental Issues Are Becoming a Global Problem. What Are the Causes and How Can Individuals and Governments Solve Them?

Our planet is clearly in trouble, and environmental problems are one of the biggest challenges we face today. From rising temperatures to polluted oceans, there are many causes behind this crisis. I believe that only a cooperative initiative from both the government and individuals can bring positive changes to the environment.

The problem of environmental degradation is a collective effect of human negligence, overconsumption of resources, and lack of sustainable practices. For example, human society is heavily dependent on fossil fuels as an important part of cars, factories, and even electricity. Similarly, plastic waste from humans ends up in the ocean, compromising the quality of water and threat to aquatic life. Additionally, actions like deforestation are continuously having a long-term impact on wildlife and the climate.

Solving these issues is very challenging for individuals or of government.  Therefore, only a collective work of government and individuals can help in restoring our nature and its life forms. Governments should start promoting clean energy, like solar and wind, to reduce carbon emissions. On the other hand, reducing the usage of plastic, using public transport, and saving electricity at home can work strongly in favour of the environment. These small yet effective actions can make a huge difference to the world and society.

Therefore, caring for and working for the environment is not an individualistic job or only the work of the government. Only strong plans of action by the government and the work of the people can help our environment regain its true balance and beauty.

Essay 2: Many People Think Environmental Problems Are Too Big for Individuals to Solve. Others Believe Every Individual Can Play a Role. Discuss Both Views and Give Your Opinion.

There’s no doubt that environmental problems like climate change, pollution, and deforestation are becoming worse every year. Some people think these issues are too large for individuals to handle alone. Others believe that small efforts by many people can actually make a difference. I personally believe that while government action is necessary, individuals still play a vital role.

Many people consider environmental problems a holistic problem for human society that needs attention from the government and global organizations. These people believe that an individualistic approach can not solve this big problem. For example, it is impossible to reduce global warming through the efforts of a single person. These actions are usually in the hands of governments and international organisations.

But still, that doesn’t mean ordinary people are powerless. If individuals stop using plastic, use bicycles instead of cars, and save water and electricity, these actions add up over time. Many people believe that spreading awareness among people through social rallies and campaigns can influence people to work in favor of their environment. Some other crucial steps that can solve environmental problems include voting for eco-friendly policies, teaching children about environmental problems and solutions, supporting eco-friendly brands, and more.

I believe, solving big environmental problems requires attention from both people and global organizations. Only balanced actions from both can solve the rising problems concerning the environment and its protection.
