SAT Exam Registration 2026-27: Dates, Fees & How to Apply?

The SAT exam registration process for 2026–27 involves selecting a test date, choosing an available test centre, and completing the application through the College Board website. Students in India must provide their personal details, upload a photograph, submit an accepted form of identification, and pay the international registration fee of USD 111 (approximately INR 10,434). 

They must also download the Bluebook app on an approved device and complete the required exam setup before test day. This guide explains the SAT test dates, registration deadlines, fees, eligibility, application steps, and other requirements for students planning to take the exam in India.

SAT Exam Registration 2026–27: Key Dates and Last Dates

Students in India take the same SAT Weekend tests as everyone else. College Board uses one schedule for U.S. and international students, so there's no separate calendar for SAT exam registration in India.

Here are the test dates and deadlines for the rest of 2026-27:

A few things to keep in mind:

• All SAT Weekend deadlines expire at 11:59 p.m. ET. For a student in India, that works out to the next morning, roughly 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. IST depending on U.S. daylight saving time. Don't leave it to the last hour.
• The test starts at 7:45 a.m. local time on test day.
• If you take the December 5, 2026 SAT, College Board lists the score release date as December 18, 2026.
• Sunday testing is only offered to students who can't test on Saturdays for religious reasons, and College Board says it isn't available in India.

SAT Registration Deadline and Late Registration

Every test date has two deadlines, and it helps to know how they differ.

• Regular registration deadline: This is the last day to sign up at the standard fee. For example, for the December 5, 2026 test, it's November 20, 2026.
• Late registration deadline: If you miss the regular deadline, you can still register until this later date, but you'll pay an extra fee. For example, for the December 5, it's November 24, 2026.

Late registration is available worldwide, and it costs an additional USD 38. It also depends on seat availability. Test centres fill up, so by the time you register late, your preferred centre may not have space. If you're planning around university application deadlines, it's safer to treat the regular deadline as your real SAT exam registration last date.

When Should You Register for the SAT?

Register as early as you can. An early booking gives you the best chance of getting your preferred date and centre, and it leaves room for a retake if you need one. College Board notes that most students take the SAT for the first time in the spring of their junior year, then again in the fall of their senior year.

There are two time limits that catch students out:

• Borrowing a device: If you need to borrow a device from College Board, you must register and request it at least 30 days before test day. College Board needs that time to ship the device to your test centre. Submitting a request doesn't guarantee you'll get one.
• Downloading Bluebook: College Board advises downloading the Bluebook app at least 30 days before test day. That gives you time to practise on your device or find another one if it doesn't meet the requirements.

How to Register for SAT Exam in India (Step by Step)

Online SAT exam registration is done through the College Board website. College Board says the process takes about 30 minutes, but you can start it, save it, and come back later to finish.

One rule matters here: you have to register for yourself. Your parent or counsellor can't do it for you. You'll also need a photo and a form of payment ready before you begin.

Here are the steps:

Step 1: Create a College Board Account

Go to the College Board website and sign in to your free account. If you don't have one yet, create one. Enter your personal details carefully. A typo in your name or date of birth can cause trouble on test day, and it isn't always easy to fix later.

Step 2: Select Your SAT Test Date

Choose a date from the table above. Think about:

• Your university application deadlines
• How much preparation time you need
• Whether you want a second attempt before applications close

If the date is close, remember the 30-day rule for borrowed devices.

Step 3: Choose an SAT Test Centre in India

Use College Board's test centre search to look at locations near you. College Board suggests exploring more than one, because not every centre has seats left. You'll see which centres have open seats during the registration process, and you'll pick your final location there.

Step 4: Complete the Registration Form

You'll be asked for your identifying details. These include your full legal name exactly as it appears on your photo ID, your date of birth, gender, and mailing address. You may also be asked for school details, such as your high school code. 

During registration, you'll also be asked what device you plan to use on test day. If you're not sure you'll have one, there's an option that says "I don't know if I have access to the necessary device." Pick it if that applies to you, because it's what lets you request a loaned device later.

The information you enter must match the ID you'll carry on test day. 

In India, College Board accepts only:

• Physical, government-issued driver’s licence or non-driver ID.
• Physical student ID issued by your current school.
• Valid government-issued passport or U.S. Global Entry card.
• Government-issued military or national ID.

Step 5: Upload Your Photograph

You'll upload a photo as part of registration. On test day, centre staff compares it with your ID and how you look that day. Here's what College Board asks for:

• The file must be a .jpg, .gif, or .png. You can crop and reposition it after uploading.
• You should be easy to recognise and the only person in the picture.
• Face the camera directly, with your head and shoulders fully in view.
• Your whole face, both eyes and your hair, should be clearly visible. Head coverings worn for religious purposes are fine.
• The photo should be in focus, with no dark spots or shadows.
• Black-and-white photos are acceptable.

You won't be allowed to take the test if your photo has a tilted head, sunglasses, a hat that isn't religious, more than one person, heavy shadows, or any digital changes, including filters. A "successful upload" message only means the file type and size are right. It doesn't mean the photo meets the rules. If you need to change it later, you can do it through your account until 5 days before the test date.

Step 6: Pay the SAT Exam Registration Fee

You pay online to confirm your registration. College Board accepts these payment methods:

• Credit cards: American Express, Discover, JCB, MasterCard, UnionPay and Visa
• PayPal: If you don't have an account, create one before you register

The amount for international students is USD 68 plus a USD  43 international fee. Any extra charges, such as a late registration fee, are added on top. See the fee section below for the full picture.

Step 7: Download Your Admission Ticket and Complete Bluebook Setup

The SAT is taken on a device using the Bluebook app. You can use:

• A Windows laptop or tablet
• A Mac laptop or an iPad
• A school-managed Chromebook

You can't use a personal Chromebook, a mobile phone, or a Linux or PureOS device.

Here's the timeline College Board recommends:

When	What to do
As soon as possible (at least 30 days before)	Download Bluebook on your testing device, check that it meets the requirements, and practise using the app.
1 to 5 days before test day	Open Bluebook, sign in, and complete exam setup. This downloads your test and creates your admission ticket
Test day morning	Close and reopen Bluebook, check for last-minute messages, and make sure you have fully charged your device

Print your admission ticket or email it to yourself. College Board says a printed ticket is preferred. If you're using a borrowed device, arrive 30 minutes before the standard check-in time to pick it up, sign in, and finish setup.

SAT Registration Fee in India (2026-27)

The SAT exam registration fee for students in India has two parts: the standard registration fee and an international fee.

Additional SAT Registration Charges

Some charges apply only if you use a service or your plans change. College Board says these additional fees are the same whether you test inside or outside the U.S. The fees below are listed through June 2027.

The test centres that charge a test centre fee are mostly in Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan. None of the listed centres are in India. Still, it is better to contact your own test centre for the latest information.

Change, Cancel and Late Registration Fees

Plans change. A school exam gets rescheduled, a centre is too far, or you simply miss the deadline. College Board lets you adjust your SAT exam registration, but each move has its own rule and its own fee. It helps to know the three situations apart:

• Changing your test centre: You keep the same date and move to another location.
• Cancelling your registration: You drop out of that test date altogether.
• Registering late: You sign up after the regular deadline but before the late deadline.

One point trips up a lot of students. You can't simply "move" your test date. To take the SAT on a different day, you have to cancel your current registration and register again for the new date. In your My SAT account, you can either cancel first or register for the new date first.

SAT Registration Change Fee

The change fee is USD 34, and it applies only to changing your test centre. It doesn't cover a date change.

You can change a few things after registering. The information which you can change is as follows:

Two small warnings:

• Name changes: The table above gives a Monday-before-test deadline. But College Board's ID page says that if you need to change your name after registering, you should contact Customer Service at least 30 days before your test date. Your name has to match your ID exactly, so fix any mistake as early as you can.
• Borrowed devices: If you've asked for a loaned device and then change your centre within 30 days of the test, College Board may not be able to send the device to the new location.

SAT Cancellation Fee and Refund Policy

You can cancel from your My SAT account. Go to the registration you want to drop, open the "I would like to" menu, and choose Cancel Registration.

The fee depends on when you cancel:

Here's what else you should know about refunds:

• The refund goes back to your original form of payment.
• Refunds are processed starting 3 to 5 business days after you cancel.
• Score reports you ordered with your registration are refundable only if you're absent on test day.
• Rush score reports can't be refunded.
• If you cancel and later decide you do want that date, you'll have to register again.

SAT Late Registration Fee

If you miss the regular deadline, you can still register until the late registration deadline by paying USD 38 (INR 3,572) on top of the usual fees. College Board says late registration is available worldwide, but it depends on the test date and on seats being left at your centre.

Take the December 5, 2026 SAT as an example:

• The regular deadline (the standard SAT exam registration last date) is November 20, 2026.
• The late registration deadline is November 24, 2026.
• Register between those two dates, and you will pay the late fee as well.

Once the late deadline passes, you can't register for that test date. The next option is the following test date.

SAT Registration Eligibility

Good news first: the process of online SAT exam registration is open and simple. College Board doesn't publish a strict age limit or a fixed minimum qualification for taking the SAT. In practice, most students take it during high school while preparing for undergraduate admissions, and many take it for the first time in the spring of Grade 11.

Is There an Age Limit for SAT Registration?

Students of different ages can take the SAT. The one thing that changes is how you register if you're under 13.

• A parent or guardian has to complete and submit the College Board's Account Creation Consent form.
• After that, a College Board representative contacts the parent or guardian with the next steps for creating the student account.
• That account is what lets the student register for the SAT.

If you're 13 or older, you register through your own College Board account.

Can Indian Students Register for the SAT?

Yes. Students in India register for the international SAT through the College Board website, the same way as students in any other country. For SAT exam registration in India, a few points apply:

• You pay the international registration fee on top of the base fee.
• You must carry one of the IDs College Board accepts in India (see the next section).
• Sunday testing isn't available in India.
• You register for yourself. Parents and counsellors can't do it on your behalf.

One more thing worth knowing: College Board is a U.S.-based organisation and follows U.S. sanctions rules. It can't accept registrations from sanctioned persons, and it may block payments from them. This applies to people in certain areas and those named by the U.S. government, so it doesn't affect most students.

Documents Required for SAT Registration

You don't upload a stack of documents to register. But there are things to keep ready, both for the registration itself and for test day.

For registration:

• Your College Board account login
• Your full legal name exactly as it appears on your photo ID, your date of birth, gender, and mailing address
• A photo that meets College Board's rules 
• A credit card or PayPal account for the fee

For test day:

• Your fully charged device with Bluebook installed and exam setup completed
• Your up-to-date admission ticket from Bluebook (a printed copy is preferred)
• An acceptable physical photo ID
• Your College Board username and password
• Pencils or pens for scratch work

Acceptable ID in India: College Board accepts only these:

• A valid passport with your name, photograph, and signature
• A valid Aadhaar PVC Card with your name and photograph
• A U.S. Department of War (DoW) Common Access Card (CAC)

For Aadhaar, only the letter and the PVC Card are valid. The letter must be the hard copy issued by the Government of India in its original form. Printouts, copies, screenshots, and e-cards are not accepted.

Your ID must meet every one of these rules:

• It's valid and unexpired.
• It's an original, physical document. Photocopies and digital IDs shown on a phone won't work.
• It carries your full legal name exactly as it appears on your admission ticket. A nickname on the ticket and a full name on the ID won't match.
• It has a recent photo that clearly matches how you look on test day and the photo you uploaded.
• It's in good condition, with clearly readable English text and a clear photo.

A few other rules to remember:

• If you travel to another country to take the test, you must use a valid passport.
• Keep your ID with you all day, including during breaks. You may be asked to show it more than once.
• Test centre staff don't have to hold your seat if you leave to fetch your ID.
• If you'll be 21 or older on test day, only an official government-issued photo ID is accepted.
• Credit or debit cards, birth certificates, employee ID cards, and damaged or altered documents are not acceptable.

SAT Test Centres in India

The SAT is held at authorised test centres, and in India, most of them are international schools and a few universities. You can't take it from home. You search for centres through College Board's test centre search while registering, and you choose your exact centre during registration.

The centres on offer change by test date, and seats run out. The table below has some major cities and a few SAT exam centres within each city:

Other cities that have SAT test centres in India are Chandigarh, Coimbatore, Visakhapatnam, Guwahati, Dehradun, Indore, Bhopal, and Bhubaneswar. Smaller cities may have only one or two centres, and not on every date.

How to Find an SAT Test Centre Near You?

Use the Test Center Search tool on the College Board website. Here's how:

1. Open College Board's SAT Test Center Search page.
2. Choose the test date you want and enter your location.
3. Look through the centres shown. Not all of them will have seats, so note a few options.
4. Start your registration. You'll see which centres still have open seats for your date, and you'll pick one there.

If nothing suits you for your date, try a different test date. You can also check College Board's test centre closings page before test day, in case a centre has shut for any reason.

How to Choose the Right SAT Test Centre

Don't just pick the nearest one. Think about these things:

• Location and travel time: Test centre doors open at 7:45 a.m. local time and close at 8 a.m., as College Board states. A long journey on a Saturday morning can eat into your sleep, so choose a centre you can reach without stress.
• Available seats: Popular centres in big cities fill early. Register early and keep a backup centre in mind.
• Accessibility: If you need accommodations, you'll need to arrange them through your account, and changes to accommodations close 5 days before the test date.
• Device arrangements: If you're borrowing a device, College Board ships it to your test centre. You'll need to arrive 30 minutes before the standard check-in time to collect it and finish setup.
• Extra fees: Ask the centre whether it charges any additional test centre fee.

After you register, open your account and check the centre name and address once more. If you change your centre later, remember the USD 34 (INR 3,196) change fee.

Tips for a Smooth SAT Registration

A few things will help you register for your SAT exam more easily:

• Register early. You get your preferred date and centre, and you avoid the USD 38 (INR 3,572) late fee.
• Treat the regular deadline as your real deadline. Late registration depends on seat availability.
• Check your name. It should match your passport or Aadhaar PVC Card exactly, with no nicknames.
• Get the photo right the first time. Face the camera, no filters, no sunglasses. An "upload successful" message doesn't mean the photo is accepted.
• Check your ID before you pay. Make sure your passport is valid, or that you hold the Aadhaar PVC Card. The Aadhaar letter must be the original hard copy.
• Sort out your device early. Download Bluebook at least 30 days before the test. If you need a loaned device, register and request it at least 30 days ahead.
• Pay with a supported method. Use a credit card (American Express, Discover, JCB, MasterCard, UnionPay, or Visa) or PayPal. Set up PayPal before you start.
• Complete exam setup 1 to 5 days before. That's when your admission ticket is created. Print it or email it to yourself.
• Keep your confirmation emails. They help if you ever need to change, cancel, or ask about a refund.
• Plan your retake. Leave a gap between your first attempt and your university deadline.
