Who Is Eligible for the Swami Vivekananda Scholarship?

Good marks can not alone make you eligible for this scholarship. You must be a resident of West Bengal, study an eligible course at a recognised institution and meet the family-income rule that applies to your category.

The exact conditions are slightly different for school, college, technical and Kanyashree K3 applicants.

Academic Eligibility Requirements

Your marks from the last qualifying examination are considered. Most Higher Secondary, undergraduate, diploma and technical-course applicants need 60%, while the requirement for postgraduate students is usually 53% or 55%.

Please Note: Having the required marks doesn’t automatically make you eligible. Your course and institution must also come under the correct SVMCM directorate.

Family Income and Residence Requirements

For most students, the annual family-income limit is ₹2.5 lakh. This includes income earned by the family from all sources, and applicants need a valid certificate to support the amount entered in the form.

You’ll need to meet these conditions:

• You must be a domicile of West Bengal.
• Your family income shouldn’t exceed ₹2.5 lakh per year.
• You must study an eligible course at a recognised institution.
• Your income certificate must be issued by a competent authority.

The income rule doesn’t apply to everyone. Board toppers, Kanyashree K3 applicants and eligible MPhil or PhD students are exempt from it.

Eligibility for Kanyashree K3 Applicants

The Kanyashree K3 category has separate rules. It’s meant for female students studying a regular postgraduate course in Arts, Science or Commerce at a university in West Bengal.

To apply under K3, you need:

• At least 45% marks in graduation
• Admission to an eligible postgraduate course in West Bengal
• A valid Kanyashree K2 ID for online authentication

K3 applicants don’t have to meet the ₹2.5 lakh income limit, and an income certificate isn’t required.

Don’t have a Kanyashree K2 ID? You may still apply through the Directorate of Public Instruction category if you meet the same academic conditions. The scholarship benefits remain the same.

Who Is Not Eligible for SVMCM?

You may not qualify if:

• You aren’t a domicile of West Bengal.
• You’ve scored below the marks required for your course.
• Your family income is above ₹2.5 lakh per year and your category isn’t exempt.
• Your course or institution isn’t covered under the scholarship.
• You already receive another Central or State Government scholarship for the same course or study level.

Swami Vivekananda Scholarship Amount and Benefits

The amount given under the Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Means Scholarship starts at ₹1,000 per month and can go up to ₹8,000 per month. School and general-degree students usually receive a lower amount, while engineering, medical and research students receive more. For 12 months, the support hence comes to around ₹12,000–₹96,000.

Kanyashree K3 applicants receive the amount fixed for their postgraduate stream. Students studying Arts or Commerce can receive ₹2,000 per month, while Science students can receive ₹2,500 per month.

The money is sent directly to the student’s bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Make sure the account number and IFSC entered in the form are correct, as an error can delay the payment.

Swami Vivekananda Scholarship Deadline 2026

Applications for the 2025–26 session opened on November 28, 2025. Fresh applicants, renewal candidates and Kanyashree K3 students could all begin applying from this date.

The Swami Vivekananda Scholarship 2026 last date hasn’t been announced on the official portal yet. It may fall between September and October 2026, but this is only a tentative range. The closing dates may also differ by application category.

How to Apply for the Swami Vivekananda Scholarship?

You can complete the full application online, and there’s no need to submit a printed form. The process moves through registration, profile completion, document upload and final submission. Keep your academic and bank documents nearby before you begin.

Follow these steps to apply for the Swami Vivekananda Scholarship: 

1. Visit the official SVMCM portal and click on Registration.
2. Select the directorate that covers your course. It may be School Education, Public Instruction, Technical Education, Polytechnic or Medical Education.
3. Enter your personal, academic and contact details in the registration form. Use an active mobile number, as you’ll receive an OTP on it.
4. Complete the OTP verification. The portal will then generate a 15-character Applicant ID and send the login details to your registered mobile number and email.
5. Log in using the Applicant ID, password and security code. Complete the remaining personal, institution, academic and bank details.
6. Upload your photograph, signature and supporting documents. Each file needs to match the size and format shown on the portal.
7. Open the completed form in view mode and check it once. Pay close attention to your name, marks, course and bank account details.
8. Click Submit Application. Download the completed form or registration details and keep a copy with you.

Documents Required for SVMCM Application

The portal asks for academic, admission, income, residence and bank records. Upload clear scans where every name, number and stamp can be read properly. A blurred page or incomplete mark sheet may slow down verification.

For domicile proof, you can use an Aadhaar card, Voter ID, ration card or a certificate issued by the concerned authority. Kanyashree K3 applicants don’t need a family-income certificate.

Check the bank passbook scan carefully. The applicant’s name, account number and IFSC should all be visible because the scholarship payment is sent to this account.

Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Means Scholarship Selection Process

Submitting your SVMCM application form doesn’t mean the scholarship is approved straight away. The application first goes through checks at the institution and directorate levels. Your marks, family income and uploaded documents are all reviewed before a final decision is made.

Here’s how the selection usually moves:

1. Your school, college or university checks the details and documents submitted with the application.
2. The institution confirms your admission, course, marks and other academic information.
3. The application is forwarded to the concerned SVMCM directorate for further review.
4. Your academic marks are checked against the requirement for your course and study level.
5. The family-income certificate is verified for categories where the ₹2.5 lakh annual limit applies.
6. Eligible applications are considered according to merit and the funds available under the scheme.
7. Once approved and sanctioned, the scholarship amount is sent to the bank account registered by the student.

How to Check Swami Vivekananda Scholarship Status?

Once your form is submitted, you can follow its progress through your applicant dashboard. The Swami Vivekananda Scholarship status check shows whether the application is still with your institution, has moved ahead for verification or has received a final update.

Follow these steps:

1. Open the official SVMCM portal.
2. Click on Applicant Login.
3. Enter your Applicant ID, password and security code.
4. After logging in, open your dashboard.
5. Click on Track Profile to see the latest activity on your application.
6. Check whether the form is awaiting verification, has been forwarded or has moved to the approval stage.

If you’ve forgotten your login details, select Forgot Applicant ID/Password on the login window. You can recover the Applicant ID or reset the password using the mobile number registered with your application.

Sometimes, the status may not change for a while because verification is still pending at the institution or directorate level. If there’s no update for a long time, speak to your institution first. You can also contact the SVMCM helpdesk for support.

How to Renew the Swami Vivekananda Scholarship?

Students who received the scholarship in the previous year need to renew it after moving to the next class or academic year. You don’t have to register again. Just log in with your existing Applicant ID and password.

Only previously sanctioned applicants can access the renewal form. You must also meet the academic conditions below:

• Pass the promotional examination on the first attempt.
• Clear every semester examination on the first attempt if your course follows the semester system.
• Score at least 60% at the Higher Secondary and undergraduate levels.
• Score at least 50% at the postgraduate level.
• Submit the renewal form within one month of admission to the next class or academic year.

SVMCM Renewal Process

1. Visit the official SVMCM portal and open Applicant Login.
2. Enter your previous Applicant ID, password and security code.
3. Select the renewal application option from the dashboard.
4. Add your latest marks and promotion details.
5. Upload the mark sheets from your present course and the admission receipt for the next class.
6. Check the details and submit the renewal form.

Your bank account should normally remain the same. If the account has been closed or needs to be changed for another valid reason, the update must be handled through the concerned directorate with approval from the Head of the Institution.

Common Reasons for SVMCM Application Rejection

Most SVMCM applications aren’t rejected because of one big mistake. It’s often something small- a name that doesn’t match the mark sheet, an unreadable document or the wrong course category.

A quick check before submission can save a lot of trouble later.

If your application is stuck or the payment hasn’t arrived, contact the SVMCM helpdesk at helpdesk.svmcm-wb@gov.in or call 1800-102-8014 between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM, except Sundays. Keep your Applicant ID nearby, as the support team may ask for it.

You can also submit a grievance online. Choose Registered Applicant if you already have an Applicant ID; otherwise, select Not Registered Applicant. Explain the issue clearly and save the grievance reference number for later.
