  • Aspirants usually need to have MD, PhD, or PharmD qualifications. Programs like PharmD or PhD usually cover four to five years, followed by a fellowship. They can take up these courses after completing their undergraduate degrees. 
  • Students also have to gain laboratory experience as part of their coursework. 
  • The next phase involves training in clinical experience and fellowships. These programs may span two to three years. 
  • Pharmacologists have to earn their requisite licenses as per the regulations of their country and region. An examination may have to be cleared for the same, while the license has to be renewed periodically. Professionals can also obtain specialized certifications after clearing specific examinations and attending programs approved by regulatory bodies. 
  • The final step is applying for jobs in the field as per the preferences. 

Eligibility Criteria 

The eligibility criteria may vary for undergraduate and postgraduate programs in pharmacology. Here are some general guidelines that are worth noting. 

Undergraduate courses (BSc or equivalent)- 

  • AAA-AAB grades, including two out of the core sciences (Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics). There should be minimum AA grades in two of these core sciences. 
  • General education (high school) equivalent to C or Grade 4 in IGCSE/GCSE Mathematics and English Language or equivalent. 
  • This is 35-36 points for International Baccalaureate with 6, 6, 5 to 6, 6, 6 at the higher level (inclusive of two science subjects). 
  • English language proficiency. 

Postgraduate courses (MSc)- 

  • An undergraduate/bachelor’s degree with 63% from a prestigious institution. 
  • For an undergraduate degree from a recognized institution, the percentage usually has to be around 65%. 
  • The percentage required is around 60% for a bachelor’s degree from a highly prestigious institution. 
  • English language proficiency.
