Q. Is CBSE Accepted in UK?

Is CBSE accepted in UK? Students who complete Grade 12 under the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) can apply to UK universities across a wide range of subjects. Admissions teams review CBSE results the same way they review international qualifications like A-levels or the IB.

Top universities in the UK—such as OxfordCambridgeImperial College London, Edinburgh, and Manchester—consider CBSE scores during application review. They expect high academic performance in subjects related to the chosen degree. For example, engineering applicants need strong scores in Mathematics and Physics. Most courses ask for at least 85–90% in relevant subjects, and some competitive programs set higher requirements.

CBSE board acceptance in the UK for university admissions also depends on subject choices and exam results. Universities prefer applicants who show consistent academic performance and choose subjects that match their degree goals. For example, medical schools expect Biology and Chemistry at the Grade 12 level, while computer science programs expect Math and sometimes Physics.

Although CBSE uses English as the medium of instruction, universities still ask for proof of English proficiency. You need to take the IELTS or TOEFL. Most universities look for an IELTS score of 6.5 to 7.0 overall, or 90 to 100 in TOEFL iBT.

When applying, submit the following:

  • Grade 10 and Grade 12 mark sheets
  • Predicted scores (if final results are pending)
  • IELTS or TOEFL scores
  • A valid passport
  • A personal statement
  • One academic reference

Some universities also ask for entrance tests. Law programs may require the LNAT. Medicine often needs the UCAT or BMAT. A few top universities include interviews as part of the admissions process.

If your CBSE scores fall short of direct entry requirements, you can apply for a foundation year. This one-year program helps you build the academic background needed to enter a full undergraduate degree.

So, is CBSE accepted in UK? Yes. Students from CBSE schools apply every year and receive offers from leading UK institutions. Focus on subject selection, board marks, and test scores. Check the entry requirements early, and submit a complete application on time.
