North Carolina Central University: Rankings, Fees, Courses & Admissions

According to Times Higher Education (THE), North Carolina Central University has been ranked >600th in the US College Rankings 2022. According to US News, NCCU has been ranked #11 in Historically Black Colleges and Universities, #26 in Regional Universities South, and #9 in Top Public Schools. 

Students may apply after the deadline of January 15 until the class size is filled because NCCU accepts applications on a rolling basis. However, applicants must fulfil the following requirements to be considered for admission. 

• To be eligible for admission, all applicants must meet the University of North Carolina's (UNC) minimal criteria
• Four-course modules in English with a focus on grammar, composition, and literature
• Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, and a fourth mathematics course that is higher than Algebra II, or Algebra I, Algebra II, and two more mathematics courses that are higher than Algebra II
• Three-course units in science, at least one of which must be in a lab.
• Two-course units in a foreign language
• Two-course units in social studies, at least one of which should be in American history.

Documents Required for North Carolina Central University

The following documents must be produced by the applicant while applying to the desired degree courses at North Carolina Central University-

• Official transcripts of high school and its relevant translated documents, if not in English
• A financial statement
• Statement of purpose
• Letters of recommendation
• Approved affidavit of financial support
• Photocopies of VISA/passport
• Relevant test scores
• Proof of English language proficiency 

Graduate applicants must produce the above-mentioned documents, but may also require additional documents-

• A certified copy of a transcript that has been assessed course-by-course by a US agency
• Official test scores for the GMAT or GRE
• Proof of English language proficiency. 

Exam Requirements for North Carolina Central University

The following test scores are mandatory and must be submitted when applying to the courses at NCCU-

• The minimum high school GPA required for applying to NCCU is 3.35 on a scale of 4.0
• Applicants must secure at least 450 in SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing
• Graduate applicants must produce their GMAT or GRE test scores
• Undergraduate international students must secure 500 in TOEFL PBT, 79 in TOEFL IBT, or 6 bands in IELTS
• Graduate international students must secure 550 in TOEFL PBT, 61 in TOEFL IBT, or 6 bands in IELTS

The urban campus is situated roughly three miles east of Duke University and about a mile south of Durham, North Carolina's downtown. There are 12 honor societies and 130 listed student organizations at the university. Almost sixty per cent of graduate students and almost all undergraduates choose to live on campus. The supportive living and educational settings of NCCU are well served with 2,800 beds, 86 resident assistants, and professional staff.

North Carolina Central University's Residential Division takes pleasure in being able to provide students with inexpensive, pleasant housing. Apartment-style, suite-style, and conventional resident halls are all the available options for lodging.

The cost of attendance (COA) is the estimated amount that students may anticipate paying for the academic year.  The COA includes additional costs such as accommodation and board, travel, and other auxiliary expenses in addition to direct expenditures such as tuition, fees, and books. The cost may vary depending on many factors. 

North Carolina Central University offers scholarships, loans, grants, and work-study opportunities to its students. After October 1, the student must renew this every year. The scholarship programs of the university are discussed below-

• Cheatham-White Scholarship Program- This scholarship is worth $4000 and is a fully financed, four-year scholarship for merit awarded to students with a 4.42 GPA, an average ACT score of 28.8, and an average SAT score of 1,322.
• Chancellor’s Cycle of Success Scholarships: SOARING EAGLE- This scholarship is worth $7500 and is awarded to students with 1180 SAT/25 ACT scores and a 3.75 GPA.
• Chancellor’s Cycle of Success Scholarships: RISING EAGLE- This scholarship is worth $3500 and is granted to students with a 3.5 GPA and 1160 SAT/24 ACT scores.
• Chancellor’s Cycle of Success Scholarships: EAGLE-IN-FLIGHT- This scholarship is worth $2500 and is granted to students with a 3.2 GPA, 23 ACT score, and 1130 SAT score.
