Q. Is the German language an essential requirement in Germany?

A. To work in Germany, it is not a criterion. Not knowing the German language should not be a barrier in your career. But it is always better to have basic knowledge and acquaintance with regular language vocabulary for everyday communication. However, most people speak English, so communication is not that tough.
