What was the University of Calgary’s ranking in previous years? 

The global rankings for the University of Calgary fluctuated during the 2024-2026 period. In the QS World University Rankings, (its only iteration (182 in 2024 - 198 in 2025 - 211 in 2026)), the university had a modest decline in rank from its peers.  

In THE's 2024 ranking exercise, it was unranked, but ranked 204 in 2025 (no data was reported for 2026). In the U.S. News Global Rankings, the university was part of the 201-250 category in 2024, and, in 2025, (and has yet to update for 2026). While the QS reported a decline, the continued ranking of the University of Calgary in the top 250 in the world, could be seen as signifying a continued strong academic standing, and international recognition.

The University of Calgary is an excellent institution with well-known national and international prestige. When compared to Canadian mid-tier research universities, the University of Calgary can be viewed as falling in the lower mid QS band and middle/lower THE band. The QS 2026 rankings have placed Calgary at #211. Usually, McMaster, Western, and Ottawa are always ranked above Calgary in both QS and THE academia rankings. The University of Calgary is highly regarded as having a global ranking in Petroleum Engineering and Sports-Related Subjects, both ranking 29th by QS, and Veterinary Science at 32nd. The fields of Medicine (132nd), Psychology (101–150th), Chemistry (194th), and Biology (163rd) are also ranked well. 

  According to the THE 2025 ranking, Calgary has a ranking of 101–125th for Medical and Health and 101–125th and Education, and 176–200th for Engineering. As well Calgary sits mid-range globally in Law and Business and Computer Science.

What is the QS ranking for University of Calgary? 
The QS World University Rankings from the University of Calgary have fallen or remained level over the past three years - 182 (2024), 198 (2025), and 211 (2026). QS is a credible, respected and established reputation-based global ranking of institutions that ranks scale of universities institution based on academic reputation, employer reputation research impact, and international outlook.  

For example, Calgary achieved 54.7 overall in 2025, and performed the strongest in Employment Outcomes (61.5), Employer reputation (50.5), and Academic reputation (47.6). Internationally, Calgary's indicators perform relatively well with Faculty Ratio (87.4) and Research Network (86.2) although improvement is required on Faculty Student Ratio (24.4).

What is the Times Higher Education ranking of University of Calgary? 

Having reviewed the data for this project over the previous five or six weeks, I will summarize my observations and recommendations. First, the average 201-250 range of the University of Calgary's Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, 2024 and 2025 rankings do suggest that the U of Calgary has a viable international presence. THE divide its universities in five categories: Teaching, Research Quality, Research Environment, Industry Income, and International Outlook.  

It did score highest in Research Quality (83.6) and Industry Income (88.9); both of which show value in research output and innovation. Its International Outlook mean being above (85.7) shows engagement in the global realm and suggests a globally engaged institution.  

Its Teaching (34.4) and Research Environment (42.8) scores seem moderate (i.e., Teaching and Research Environment could be potential areas to develop). Overall, we see that Calgary is a solid research intensive with an increasingly viable international presence.

How does the University of Calgary rank for MBA/Business? 

The Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary has somewhat mixed global rankings, however it has historically had a strong ranking internationally. It was ranked 93rd on the Financial Times Global MBA ranking in 2003, however in the recent QS Business Masters, and Times Global MBA rankings from 2025 it has been ranked in the 251-300 band globally, a much more modest and ranked position currently.  

Regardless renewed growth trajectory, the Haskayne MBA possesses many positive attributes as a national-interest MBA program, and has positive pre-MBA employment prospects, positive alumni impact, and overall program diversity.
