The Master of Educational Psychology is for students who want to work in a range of educational settings upon graduation. These settings include being in schools as a psychologist, student counsellor or welfare coordinator. Or within agencies treating children with emotional and behavioural difficulties or aged care. One of only four educational psychology courses in the country, our highly regarded Master of Educational Psychology will prepare you to work as a registered psychologist supporting individuals with developmental and learning issues. The Master of Industrial and Organisational Psychology is a two-year full-time psychology course that includes nine coursework units, a research project and 1000 hours of practical placement spread over three different settings. Industrial and Organisational Psychology is a specialist area that applies psychological knowledge and skills to workplaces with the aim of improving organisational effectiveness and the quality of work life. The specialty focuses on deriving principles of individual, group and organisational behaviour and applying this knowledge to the solution of problems at work. The skills developed are in line with the essential core capabilities and attributes required by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) and the Australian Psychological Society's (APS) College of Organisational Psychologists for postgraduate professional courses.

This course is intended for registered clinical psychologists, or students who have completed a registrable psychology degree, who wish to pursue a career in research or gain a competitive advantage in their career by completing an additional postgraduate qualification. Students gain research skills and expertise in their area of research interest, and demonstrate their outstanding academic ability and commitment to clinical psychology through the completion of the degree. This course provides students the opportunity to work with leading national and international researchers in their area of interest to develop and complete an original research project which contributes to knowledge. Students gain research training and skills, as well as developing extensive knowledge and expertise in an area of research. Students are supported by a strong and vibrant research culture, both within the school and the university, and have access to other researchers, a wide variety of workshops, the university library and research facilities.

This course is for graduates of a four-year accredited psychology program. The primary aim is to provide a 5th year of supervised practice and structured learning to prepare candidates for a final year of supervised internship in the field of psychological practice, prior to applying for general registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia. The Master of Professional Psychology provides one year of full-time education in the professional practice of psychology that: forms the foundation for professional practice, building on the existing knowledge and skills base acquired as part of an APAC-accredited (Australian Psychology Accreditation Council) four-year undergraduate course; takes an evidence-based approach based to the scientist-practitioner model; is broad and generalist in nature; and grounds the core professional competencies as outlined in the APAC accreditation standards. Teaching methods include a combination of lectures, workshops, skills training, on-line and supervised work-based practicums, both at the University's Northfields Psychology Clinic and at external placements. The emphasis is on skills training and includes demonstration sessions, audio-visual recording of assessment and therapy, case presentations, role-play activities and feedback and reflection.

This Masters program will commence in Trimester 1-2022. This degree integrates supervised placement experiences and coursework focused on psychological practice. You will learn how to practice professionally and ethically and to communicate and collaborate effectively as you gain skills in evaluating client needs, designing and implementing evidence-based interventions and evaluating outcomes. This program has been designed to meet the requirements for the fifth year of a 5+1 pathway to general registration as a Psychologist. Enrolment in this program may allow you to register as a provisional Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia as part of the requirements of a 5+1 pathway and prepares you for eligibility to complete a +1 internship as a provisional Psychologist.

The Master of Psychotherapy and Counselling is a cross-disciplinary pathway into a career in helping people in distress. In counselling and psychotherapy, clients gain self-understanding, expand interpersonal capacities and become more able to change through a dedicated helping relationship. This program focuses on the process of creating of a therapeutic environment for clients and on cultivating the high levels of skill, sensitivity, self-knowledge and ethical conduct required of the counselling and psychotherapy professional. Theories and approaches are taught and critically examined in the light of their contribution to a contemporary relational understanding and practice of counselling and psychotherapy. A research component introduces students to the systematic study of the counselling experience from a variety of methodological perspectives. This program is open to graduates in any discipline who can demonstrate the personal and reflective qualities required for this demanding profession.

If you're working towards becoming a registered psychologist and have already completed an accredited three-year undergraduate psychology degree or equivalent, this course provides you with an alternative option to an honours year to satisfy the educational requirements needed to register and work as a provisional psychologist. Students in the Graduate Diploma in Psychology must complete coursework at an advanced level as well as a group-based research project written up as an individual thesis.
