Q. What is a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP)?

After finishing a study program in Canada, international students can get post-graduation work permits (PGWPs), which are open work permits. Under PGWP, you are allowed to work anywhere in Canada for any business, for however many hours you like.

This is a work visa that will permit you to get helpful, professional training in Canada and can be valid for eight months to three years. Moreover, the chance of acquiring residency in Canada is expanded with appropriate professional training inside the country.

In order for a foreign citizen to be eligible for a PGWP, they must have at least pursued a program spanning eight months and have finished a full-time study program in Canada. A recognized learning institution (DLI) and a qualified study program shall be the source of this study program. The eligible study levels include:-

  • Public post-secondary institutions like colleges, universities, or trade/technical schools (including CEGEP in Quebec).
  • Certain Quebec private post-secondary schools operating under public school rules.
  • Private Quebec secondary or post-secondary schools offering programs of 900 hours leading to a DEP or ASP.
  • The province legally authorizes Canadian private schools to grant degrees for specific enrolled degree programs.

Note that while their application is being taken care of, candidates who present a PGWP before their review license terminates can begin working all day immediately. Furthermore, applicants from abroad may apply for PGWP.

It can take between 80 and 180 days to process your PGWP. After you've satisfied your review program's prerequisites, you have 180 days to apply for PGWP.
If you leave Canada after completing your studies, you can apply for a PGWP from overseas.
