The IELTS offers re-evaluation facilities to test-takers who are not satisfied with their IELTS band score. The process of rechecking is known as IELTS Enquiry on Results (EOR). This process allows candidates to apply for rechecking of their test scores for one or multiple test sections.

Candidates who feel their IELTS band scores do not align with their performance can apply for an IELTS EOR within six weeks of the original test date. Test-takers can apply for a re-evaluation on the official websites of the IDP and the British Council. The IELTS rechecking fee in India is INR 13,500 for IELTS exam on Paper or Computer. The fee structure varies for IELTS UKVI and Life Skills.

In this article, we have provided a detailed insight into the IELTS rechecking process, step-by-step process, fee structure, result timeline, and more details of the IELTS exam in 2025.

IELTS Computer Based Test vs Paper Based

What Is IELTS Revaluation or Enquiry on Results (EOR)?

Many IELTS test-takers often feel that their scores don’t exactly align with their performance in the test. Therefore, to keep the evaluation process fair and clear, the IELTS has introduced IELTS Revaluation, also known as IELTS Enquiry on Results (EOR).

In the reevaluation process, the requested tests are re-marked by senior examiners. Test-takers can apply for a remark of one, multiple, or all four sections (Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking). The reevaluation requests are raised within 6 weeks of the test date.

Features of IELTS EOR:

  • The rechecking is done manually by a senior IELTS examiner.
  • IELTS EOR is available for both Computer-Based IELTS and Paper-Based IELTS.

Eligibility Criteria for IELTS Remark

Not everyone can apply for IELTS revaluation. Candidates need to fulfil the following eligibility criteria to apply for an IELTS recheck:

  • You must apply for revaluation within 6 weeks of your original test date.
  • Students need their IELTS Test Report Form (TRF) number and personal details to fill out the EOR form.
  • Candidates who took the test through IDP or the British Council can apply for IELTS EOR.
  • If you have not applied for the EOR previously for the same test.

How IELTS EOR Works and How Long It Takes

Candidates who wish to apply for the IELTS reevaluation need to submit their EOR request online via IDP or the British Council. The IELTS rechecking fee for Indian students is INR 13,500 for both paper-based and computer-delivered IELTS.

Once the re-evaluation request is raised, the sections you selected are reviewed by experienced IELTS examiners.

  1. Independent Re-Evaluation:
    • For writing and speaking, the examiner will reassess your responses manually and individually.
    • For listening and Reading, answers are rechecked against the official answer key.
  2. Result Update:
After rechecking if the band score increases, candidates will receive a new Test Report Form (TRF), and the EOR fee will be fully refunded. In case the result remains the same, no refund will be provided.

When Will IELTS Revaluation Results Be Announced?

Once the EOR request is raised, the IELTS typically takes 2 to 21 days to complete the rechecking process. If the new result is not released after 28 days, candidates can contact their nearest IELTS test centre to register their enquiry. The IELTS EOR timeline for different test types is as follows:

  • IELTS on Paper: 2–21 days
  • IELTS on Computer: 2–7 days
  • UKVI IELTS: May take a bit longer due to additional verification processes

Factors Affecting IELTS Remark Processing Time

The IELTS re-evaluation timeline can be influenced by multiple factors, including

  • Number of modules rechecked
  • Test type
  • Volume of applications
  • Location of test centre

What Happens If Your IELTS Score Changes After Revaluation?

If your IELTS band score changes after the Enquiry on Results (EOR) process, the test centre will issue a new Test Report Form (TRF) with the updated band scores. Once the new TRF is issued, you can only use the new TRF to apply for study abroad:

How to Request a New TRF?

Once your IELTS revaluation results are released, you can request a new TRF. Follow the steps below to apply for a  new IELTS TRF:

  1. Contact your test centre via email or phone.
  2. Provide your updated IELTS details and EOR confirmation.
  3. Request a reprint or courier of the updated TRF.
  4. Some centres allow digital TRF downloads for academic submissions.

Sending Updated Scores to Universities

If your IELTS scores changed after revaluation, you can send your new IELTS scores via the following processes:

  • Notify your chosen universities or immigration authorities about the change.
  • Ask the test centre to send the updated TRF directly to the institutions.

What If Your IELTS Score Remains Unchanged?

In many cases, the IELTS band score remains unchanged even after re-evaluation. In this case, candidates can not apply for Enquiry on Results (EOR) again for the same test. Additionally, the EOR fee is non-refundable due to the administrative costs involved in the rechecking process.

If your new IELTS band score stays the same, here are a few options you can consider:

  • Retake the IELTS test
  • Join IELTS coaching for better preparation
  • Apply to institutions with the current score
  • Explore alternative English tests like PTE, TOEFL, or Duolingo English Test.

Tips Before Applying for IELTS Revaluation in 2025

Before submitting your Enquiry on Results (EOR) application, it’s important to evaluate whether rechecking your IELTS score is the right decision. Here are some helpful tips to consider:

  • Analyse Your Band Scores Thoroughly: If your scores in Listening and Reading are significantly lower than expected, revaluation might not be useful since these sections are machine-marked. Consider rechecking only if you feel your Writing or Speaking scores are unfairly low.
  • Compare with Previous Practice Test Scores: Review your previous IELTS practice scores or coaching feedback. If your actual test results seem unexpectedly low, especially in Writing or Speaking, EOR might be worth a try.
  • Get Feedback from a Trusted IELTS Mentor: Discuss your performance with a professional IELTS tutor. An expert can help assess whether a re-evaluation might realistically improve your band score.
  • Be Prepared for No Score Change: Even after rechecking, there’s no guarantee that your score will change. Keep in mind that IELTS examiners follow strict marking criteria, and the original scores are often accurate.
  • Understand the Non-Refund Policy: Remember that EOR fees are non-refundable unless your band score changes. Apply only if you have a strong reason to believe a mistake has been made.
  • Check Your Application Deadline: IELTS EOR requests must be made within six weeks of your test date. Late applications are not accepted under any circumstances.
  • Decide Which Modules to Recheck: You can request a re-evaluation for one, multiple, or all four modules (Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking). Each module is re-evaluated by a senior examiner.

Conclusion

Checking your IELTS revaluation results online is a straightforward process: simply log in to the Test Taker Portal using your credentials to view your updated scores.
