Applications of Blockchain in Healthcare Industry

After taking the finance and business sector by storm, Blockchain applications in healthcare are now all set to radicalize the healthcare industry. Ever since its inception, there’s been a massive buzz around the concept of blockchain and after witnessing excellent results that blockchain technology has brought about for the Finance sector, healthcare giants cannot help but think of ways to incorporate applications of blockchain in healthcare. In fact, blockchain has already started penetrating the industry, and there are numerous Blockchain applications in healthcare to account for this statement. Then again, a BIS research report suggests that by the end of 2025, the net worth of blockchain in healthcare will reach $5.61 billion from $176.8 million (2018). Read more about how blockchain is transforming Indian industries. What is Blockchain and How Does it Work? At its core, blockchain is a decentralized system designed to record and preserve transaction data. It is an immutable, distributed ledger consisting of interconnected transaction blocks forming a peer-to-peer network. Blockchain leverages well-established cryptographic techniques to facilitate communication among network participants without requiring prior trust. Unlike traditional systems, there is no central authority governing the blockchain. Instead, all participants maintain and share transaction records. Interactions with the blockchain and healthcare are transparent to all parties, and any information addition necessitates network verification. This characteristic enables trustless collaboration between participants while creating an unchangeable audit trail of all transactions. While the chained blocks allow you to store different data types, the transaction is one of its common forms, including financial records and product inventories.  Blockchains are different from databases as they are functional in storing data in blocks instead of tables. This will create an unalterable timeline that documents any transactions.  Blockchains exhibit a decentralized nature, facilitating easy sharing of data. Nevertheless, they can also be configured as private and centralized systems exclusively used by a single entity. Blockchains demonstrate a self-correcting mechanism. If data within one block is compromised or tampered with, the information in the other blocks within the chain cross-references each other, helping to detect and rectify the error. Security is a fundamental characteristic of blockchains. Once a block is created, any attempt to modify it requires the consensus of most blocks in the chain, necessitating changes to the cryptographic codes of adjacent blocks. How Blockchain Improves Electronic Health Record Systems? Electronic health records (EHRs) have emerged as a vital aspect of patient care, offering comprehensive, precise, and easily accessible medical treatment histories for everyone. Nevertheless, safeguarding the sensitive personal data housed within EHRs presents increasing challenges with the growing complexity of health information systems (HIS). Addressing these security concerns is where one can find the applications of blockchain in healthcare. Electronic health records (EHRs) capture patient health data in a digital format, generated and stored by multiple healthcare facilities. Typically, the healthcare provider responsible for creating the record maintains primary access. Individual EHRs often lack completeness and suffer from inconsistent management by the organizations that create and maintain them. Consequently, healthcare providers face fragmented views of a patient’s medical history. Achieving comprehensive and accessible healthcare histories through EHRs encounters additional obstacles like interoperability challenges between health information systems (HISs) and ensuring effective access control through authentication. Applications of blockchain in healthcare addresses these limitations by interlinking EHRs and distributing records ownership among all stakeholders. It incorporates various security and authentication features, offering a promising solution to these challenges. Why Blockchain for Healthcare? The healthcare sector generates vast amounts of critical data that often remains scattered and unorganized across various systems. The lack of proper and adequate infrastructure further aggravates this issue as a result of which healthcare providers (HCPs) are unable to access vital information at times of need. The absence of a centrally monitored and administered system makes healthcare data susceptible to breach and corruption. If data is stored within a particular physical machine, then anyone who has access to it can tweak the data and misuse it or even corrupt it. Check out upGrad’s Advanced Certification in DevOps  Blockchain applications, however, do not need a centrally administered system since the data will be stored within blocks of a distributed ledger, safeguarded through intricate cryptography. In a blockchain-based system, it’s not possible to manipulate and corrupt the data since the tweaked hashes will not match what’s fed into the system. In the healthcare scenario, applications of blockchain in healthcare are not only helping preserve and safeguard data integrity but are also helping pharma companies in regulating the drug supply chain, recruiting patients for clinical trials, facilitating interoperability with IoT devices, and much more. Blockchain technology in healthcare are not only helping preserve and safeguard data integrity but are also helping pharma companies in regulating the drug supply chain, recruiting patients for clinical trials, facilitating interoperability with IoT devices, and much more. Blockchain is decentralized, distributed, and immutable, and hence, it holds an immense potential to transform the healthcare sector by minimizing operational costs, eliminating corruption of data, optimizing healthcare processes, and promoting transparency. FarmaTrust Although a developing platform, FarmaTrust is a blockchain-based platform that focuses on improving the integrity of the drug supply chain. FarmaTrust allows you to track and monitor the activities of pharma companies through a digital supply chain that helps monitor the pharmaceutical drugs that penetrate the industry. The primary aim of FarmaTrust is to combat and eliminate the propagation of counterfeit drugs in the industry. The platform seeks to achieve this end by connecting pharma companies, drug manufacturers and suppliers, wholesalers, pharmacies, logistics, pharmacies, and HCPs over a single-integrated network to promote transparency within the industry. This will also help in reducing the supply chain costs significantly. In the future, FarmaTrust hopes to develop advanced AI algorithms that can automatically leverage unsupervised machine learning techniques to detect fake drugs. 3. Chronicled Chronicled combines blockchain technology with IoT to enhance and improve traceability and accountability within the drug supply chain. When it comes to sensitive healthcare products (certain vaccines, for instance, are time and temperature sensitive), speedy and timely delivery is highly crucial. Chronicled makes this possible by using a combination of blockchain tech, AI, and IoT to drive end-to-end smart supply chain solutions. Partnering with The LinkLab, Chronicled had also launched the MediLedger Project in 2017  to improve the tracking and tracing features for prescription drugs in compliance with the Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA). Similar to FarmaTrust, the MediLedger Project also seeks to reduce the proliferation of fake drugs within the supply chain. 4. Patientory Patientory is an Atlanta-based startup that uses blockchain tech to facilitate end-to-end encryption of medical data while maintaining the HIPAA compliance requirements. It allows doctors, patients, and HCPs to store, retrieve, and transfer medical information with utmost safety. Through the Patientory app, you can create your patient profile and track and monitor your health history including checkups, medical bills, medical insurance, medications, test results, and much more. That’s not all – Patientory app also allows users to connect with the Patientory community to discuss their personal health concerns with others in the community and gain valuable tips from the experience of others. 5. SimplyVital Health SimplyVital Health was launched in 2017 by Katherine Kuzmeskas with an aim to combat and eliminate the inefficiencies surrounding value-based care. It’s product, ConnectingCare connects HCPs from various clinical institutions on the same table so that they can all view the data of shared patients. Powered by the blockchain technology, ConnectingCare allows HCPs to optimize and streamline their healthcare processes to reduce the cost as well as the duration of care for patients. Moreover, AI-powered financial and clinical algorithms offer actionable and strategic use of blockchain in healthcare solutions to patients. SimplyVital Health is further expanding its reach and ability with Health Nexus – a blockchain-based system and protocol that will facilitate safe and secure data sharing between patients and HCPs while adhering to the HIPAA compliance norms. These innovative platforms are striving to change the face of the healthcare sector for the better through blockchain-powered infrastructure coupled with advanced technologies such as AI and IoT. Today, use of blockchain in healthcare is helping HCPs to maintain longitudinal patient records such as disease registries, lab test results, and health issues much more conveniently than before. Also, with blockchain, there is no fear of the data being duplicated or misused since the entire medical data of a patient is fed into a ledger along with the primary key. Using advanced and sophisticated APIs, blockchain and healthcare makes EHR interoperability and data storage smooth, seamless, and secure. Furthermore, since the blockchain system will be monitored and administered by authorized HCPs and individuals, data reconciliation would become more convenient and also cheaper. These things are not possible with conventional methods that still heavily rely on manual discretion and labour to store, organize, and track medical data. At present, the penetration of blockchain technology is still quite slow, and so are the Blockchain applications in healthcare. In 2017, IBM surveyed around 200 healthcare executives and only 16 % of the respondents agreed to adopt blockchain technology. The potential that Blockchain applications in healthcare holds for the healthcare sector can be realized only if healthcare organizations show a willingness to adopt this technology and assemble the requisite technical infrastructure for it. As of now, all we can say is although the change may be slow, blockchain and healthcare will surely will surely create a lasting impact on the healthcare industry in the future. Shaping The Blockchain Future Blockchain technology in healthcare presents exceptional prospects for simplifying processes, promoting trustless collaboration, and ensuring the security and immutability of information. It is commendable to recognize the significance of monitoring this rapidly evolving field to identify trends and pinpoint areas where government support may be necessary for unleashing the technology’s full potential in the healthcare domain. To shape the future of blockchain technology in healthcare, it is essential to contemplate the following actions: mapping and bringing together the blockchain ecosystem, developing a blockchain framework to facilitate coordination among early adopters, and providing support for a consortium that promotes dialogue and discovery in the realm of blockchain applications in healthcare.  Bottom Line The intriguing aspect of blockchain technology lies in its core expansion and adaptability. Despite facing current limitations, its open nature fosters industry-wide innovation for the future. While collaboration of blockchain and healthcare have shown promise, there are challenges that healthcare professionals must address before fully realizing their potential. Use of blockchain in healthcare offer opportunities to enhance healthcare data administration with increased security and synchronized transactions. Having a Mentor has a Deep Impact on our Lives

“Chachu, I want to become an Astronaut when I grow up,” Said my 6-year-old nephew, while he was playing with some toys. His words put a smile on my face. I looked at my brother who was sitting on the opposite side of the dining table and could see a similar smile on his face too. I could feel the happiness that was radiating out of my brother. Any parent would be happy if they saw their child being so ambitious. This incident took place earlier this year during my visit to my home in Calcutta. Although it might be very common, it made me ask myself a few questions, what happens to our ambitions once we grow up? Why are so many of us confused about the purpose our lives? Why can’t more people be happy with their work life? In today’s fast-paced world, where things are changing every minute, getting an hour of free time every day is considered to be a luxury. But, even when we get that hour of free time, it is usually spent on relaxation or entertainment. Procrastination kicks in and whatever plans we had made to use that 1 hour for self-development gets delayed to the next day. This process keeps on happening day after day, till it reaches a point where we simply give up. This is the reason why the guitarist in you never got a chance to perform at his first event or the writer in you never got her first story break. The Verdict on Online Courses: To Do or Not To Do Now comes the main question – Is there any way to take out some time from our busy lives and dedicate that time towards self-improvement? The answer is yes, there is not a single way but rather multiple ways to do that. Over here we will take a look at two such methods. First, we have to understand that the key to success is not through being busy but rather being productive. A very important skill that one should pick up in order to become more productive is time-management. Time is the most important thing that we have, and if we learn to manage it, we can really become successful in our lives. The book “7 Habits of highly effective people”  by Stephen R Covey talks a lot about time management and habit formation and anybody who is looking to get the most out of their day should give it a read. But, what if you fall asleep after reading just one page of a book? How can you learn time management without self-study? Well, the answer is simple; get a mentor in your life. A mentor will teach you not only about time management but many more useful skills and will also help you to stay on track throughout the entire journey. Let us analyse this situation from another point of view. Imagine that you are a car. Motivation is like fuel. It only helps to run a vehicle which in this case is you. But a vehicle cannot run without an engine. In human beings, our purpose acts like the engine. Even with engine and fuel, you still cannot drive a car if there is no steering wheel. Dedication is the steering wheel. But can you drive a car if there are no roads? No, so you need a road, a direction. Planning creates the road for you. But I don’t think anybody would ever want to drive a car with a single gear? Experiences and failures are our gears. Sometimes you will move at fourth or fifth gear and sometimes you may even need to put your ‘life’s car’ on the reverse. What about windscreen wipers? Yes, we have them too, education, it helps us to see the world clearly. Horn? Come on, that is your voice, both verbal as well as written. Rear view mirrors? Your memory. Headlights? Spiritual learnings Backlight? Your work Indicators? Your presence. Entertainment system? Whatever keeps you happy. AC? Mindfulness But all of this will not work unless you start the engine and for that, you need a key. In the case of our lives, the “key” is our decisions. Take Charge of Your Career for the Jobs of Tomorrow Now comes the most important question, where does a mentor fit into all of this? The answer is simple, the mentor acts like “Google Maps”. You may have all of the above things, but if you are using a wrong road map, no amount of dedication or motivation will be able to help you to achieve your goals. Just like “Google Maps” your mentor helps you to find the right track, gives you proper notifications, makes sure you have your route and time mapped out and get there when you need to. Even without a mentor, you can still achieve your goals, but sometimes it is better to have somebody by your side to help you in your journey to greatness.

Best Ways to Use Instagram Marketing For Business

Instagram is one of the most popular social media platforms. Released in the year 2010, the app has managed to gain 600 million users in a short span of time. But the best part of this platform is not the number of users it has, rather it is the number of daily active ones. According to an article published by Adweek, that number is near 300 million per day! Instagram can be used as a very effective marketing tool for your business as it has a higher engagement rate than Facebook and Twitter. Read more about the list of high demanding digital marketing skills. Whether you own a business or are a photographer who is looking to gain popularity, you can use Instagram to attract people, engage and even divert them to your website or blog. Here are a few Instagram marketing tips and tricks that you should know: 1. Creating a business account Once you decide to create an Instagram account for your business, make sure you switch to a business profile. A business account has a few advantages. Instagram Insights You can use Insights to track follower engagement, demographics, etc. Data analytics will also help you plan better. Promotions You can promote your post and run advertisements with the help of Facebook Adverts which is one of the most powerful advertising tools. Call to action buttons It gives you an option to add additional buttons for contact, location, and email below your bio. Link to your web page If you have followers over 10K, you can include links in your Instagram stories and take your users to your web page. Instagram Profile Name Your profile name should reflect your business’s niche. If you are a freelance photographer looking to showcase your skills, then you should use the word “photography” in your profile name. It helps users who are looking for photography related profiles find you. Always try to keep the profile name professional. If you are a social media marketer of a large conglomerate which deals in multiple industries and countries, it’s advisable to have different accounts with the respective names. 3. Instagram Username Your username is your unique identity on Instagram so make sure that you choose the best one. Use common words in a unique way. Here are a few tips regarding how to choose a proper username. For example, if your profile name is Joey’s burgers, then the username should also be @joeysburger. There is a high chance that “@joeysburger” will be already taken since there are already 600 million users on Instagram. So you can keep your username as @thejoeysburger or @realjoeysburger or @joeys_burger. Try out various combinations. Ask your friends and maybe some potential target audience the name they find the most attractive and then choose one accordingly. 4. Profile Image If you own a business, your profile’s image should be your business’s logo. Logo plays an important role in making your brand attractive and significant. It helps people to find your page and also attract new people to your page. If you have just started your business and have not designed a logo yet, then please take some time to develop one. Most big companies spend a huge amount of money on logo design. It’s fine if you cannot afford to spend a huge amount of money for your logo. Just search on YouTube and check out some tutorial videos on logo designing. You can also ask for help from a friend or search for freelance logo designers. Use whichever method that best suits you, but take your logo seriously. A good practice is to set your business’s logo as a watermark on your all posts. It will not only make your brand more visible but also prevent plagiarism. 5. Profile Bio. It should be crisp, short and precise. Bullets instead of a paragraph can be more effective. And make sure to put the link to your website in your profile’s bio. E.g. Golden oak bar and restaurant We specialize in Italian food More than 400 different types of wine in our collection Happy hour – every day from 4 pm – 8 pm 6. Share Share visually aesthetic images which connect your brand with your audience. Also, Instagram gives you an option to share posts on Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr while posting. Sharing on other platforms helps to attract more viewers. Instagram is an excellent tool for advertising your brand. After you post, you can also share them on WhatsApp groups with a link to the Instagram post. 7. Filters Sometimes a photo may need enhancement, then you can find filters handy; one of the most used Instagram feature. Filters are basically digital tools to enhance photographs in different themes. Instagram has a wide range of inbuilt filters viz Lux, Valencia, Juno, Reye, etc. Experiment with the filters and find out the best one before posting anything. Moreover, Instagram gives you an option to edit your photos manually as well. upGrad’s Exclusive Digital Marketing Webinar for you – What’s new in Marketing? document.createElement('video'); https://cdn.upgrad.com/blog/rumi-ambastha.mp4   8. Captions Whenever you post something, use a proper caption that explains a bit about the post. It provides a personal touch to the post and helps the audience to connect with it. Suppose you post a photo of a prawn dish which you had in Goa. You can always add a caption like “Had a plate of smoked #prawns at #AnjunaBeach #Goa last #Thursday. Probably one of the #bestdishes I have ever tasted in my life #foodporn, #foodphotography, #gastronomy.” You can use your captions to ask users to take desired actions in a witty manner. 9. Hashtags Always use relevant hashtags with your captions. If you’re posting an image or a video of food, you can include #foodporn, #foodphotography, #gastronomy and similar trending hashtags in the caption. This will help users interested in food pictures to find your photos. Plus, it will also help you to get genuine followers; people who are genuinely interested in food. Hashtags act as filters and are one of the most powerful social media features ever invented. Brands and events use hashtags to make their campaign actionable for the audience. Some popular examples include #JustDoIt campaign of Nike. 10. Geotagging Geotagging is basically adding a location to the photo. It helps to create a local follower base. The locations can be as precise as possible. A small difference can make a huge impact. Two brands, A and B selling same product from the same location can have different sizes of customer base by using geotagging differently. The brand using a precise location can have a larger follower base than the other. 11. Engagement If you want to get popular, you will have to engage with your followers and other users. Make sure that you like other people’s posts and also comment on them. Commenting gives a more personalized touch and attracts more followers. Media groups like AIB and TVF engage with their followers regularly through their witty replies. They have used effective engagement methods to gain a significant follower base. 12. Multiple photo mode Instagram can also be used to post slides. Every slide should have an aspect ratio of 1:1 and can have a maximum of 8 slides. 8 is a very good number when a business is using that feature for marketing. Moreover, you can add different captions in each image/video. 13. Stories Instagram Stories is a very powerful feature that was launched in 2016. You can upload photos and 30-second long video clips onto your timeline that stays for 24 hours. You can use this tool to feature daily clips of your products or say something to your followers. Suppose you own a cafe, you can upload a 30-second video, shooting the cup of coffee is being made in your cafe. These visual cues will help you to attract more customers to your business. For maximum engagement take the time to edit your videos before you upload them to IG.  If you want to level up your Instagram profile and post videos that really stand out from all the other content that’s out there, you absolutely need to put some effort into your creativity and into post-production, or video editing. Here is a list of popular features that can be used with Instagram stories: Stickers There are some filters and stickers which will help you to make the experience even more fun. You can add emoticons, time, location, etc in the form of stickers. It’ll make your stories much more attractive and engaging. Links If your account has more than 10K followers, you get an option to add links in your stories. After adding a link with a story, you can ask users to ‘swipe up’ to go on the link. Boomerang It is a tool that plays a short clip of video to and fro; forwards and backward, like a GIF. One of the most used features of Instagram. Rewind It plays a video in reverse. A nice tool for creating entertaining videos. Polls This is the latest feature, Instagram Story Polls. Brands can gauge direct audience response. You can see each user’s vote and segment buyers persona accordingly. Check out the Instagram pages of popular brands such as Marvel, Pixar, Starbucks, etc. to get an idea. 14. Instagram Live It is similar to YouTube live through which you can stream anything in real time. A very powerful feature which not only attracts a lot of viewers but also helps them engage with you through comments. Like, if you own a bar, you can invite singers to your place to perform, while you live stream the video with the world. You can even use this feature to aware people about various topics such as marketing, motivation, business, and others. All you would need is a phone and a good internet connection. Some popular digital marketers such as Gary Vaynerchuk uses Instagram live to promote his brand and motivate people. Many celebrities like Lily Singh (Superwoman) use this feature to vlog and connect with their fans.
