As AI is increasingly being used across every Industry now. The demand for agentic AI is on its peak.
Here are the roles that appear the most in agentic AI jobs in India right now:
Agentic AI Engineers builds agents that can plan, use tools, and finish multi step tasks. This involves use of Python, LangGraph or CrewAI, and a lot of debugging when an agent loops or loses context.
The AI Automation Specialist is the person who bridges the gap between the agents and the real-world activities performed in the business. The tools used are n8n, Zapier, and Python scripting.
The job of a Machine Learning Engineer involves training and tuning of the models. Agentic organizations usually hire an ML engineer to ask him to build agent logic on top of existing pipelines.
The role of an AI Product Manager is to determine which tasks the agent should be handling and at what point humans need to be kept in the loop. This person collaborates with various teams such as engineers, designers, business people, and end users.
An AI Solutions Architect is the one who designs the full system around the agent, from model choice and data storage to cloud cost and security.
Client facing work is very common in this job role.
An AI Governance and Ethics Specialist is the one who help organisations manage risks associated with AI systems.
This job role demands you to write the rules for what agents may do, reviews risk, and prepares audit trails. Banking and healthcare firms need this role.
An AI Agent Developer codes individual agents and their tools. It's close to the Agentic AI Engineer role, but the scope is narrower, usually one agent or one workflow.
Conversational AI Designer, is the one who designs the way an agent speaks, asks follow-up questions, and manages the confusion. It involves designing the conversation flow, understanding the user’s intentions, handling the unknown input, and transferring the request to humans.
The AI Integration Engineer is responsible for integrating the agents with the CRMs, ERPs, and internal databases. They deal with issues such as APIs, authentication, data formatting, error handling and systems testing.
An LLM Engineer works directly with large language models. Daily tasks will include prompt design, fine tuning, retrieval pipelines, and cutting token costs.
The AI Workflow Engineer translates the business process flow to a set of tasks an agent will undertake. This involves human approval checks along the way.
The AI Operations (AIOps) Specialist is responsible for managing the agents in production environments. They use the power of AI and machine learning to analyze the IT operational data and detect anomalies.
A AI Data Engineer builds the pipelines and vector databases that feed agents clean, current data. They work with databases, data processing tools, document stores, and vector databases used for retrieval.
An AI Safety Engineer evaluates agents for prompt injection, data leakages, and harmful actions. It is a job which includes evaluation, access controls, adversarial attacks and safety considerations when using tools.
An AI Research Engineer implements research papers into prototypes. Companies and labs employ such engineers, and having a master’s degree or publications would be beneficial.
An AI Implementation Consultant assists client organizations to use the agents. They help collect requirements, find proper use cases, manage teams of developers, and participate in testing.
A Multi-Agent Systems Engineer creates a system where there will be more than one agent involved, like the agent for research, writing and reviewing the work. For example, one agent can collect data, another checks the results and prepares a report.
The problem is in the coordination. Developers manage conflicting outputs, shared information, repeated actions, and the cost of running several agents.
An AI Strategy Consultant advises leadership on where agents will pay off and where they won't. Writing a sharp business case counts for more than writing code here.

You dont necessarily need a computer science degree. But there are many employers who list B.Tech, BCA, MCA, or B.Sc in a technical field. Still the main requirement is what you’ve built. Research focused roles are different, since they need a master's degree or a PhD.
A fresher with a non computer science background may still get a chance. If his GitHub profile shows working agents, clear documentation, and honest notes on what failed.
Core Technical Skills
Skill area |
What employers look for |
| Python | Clean code, async programming, working with APIs |
| Agent frameworks | LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGen |
| Retrieval | RAG pipelines, embeddings, vector databases like FAISS, Chroma, or Pinecone |
| LLM basics | Prompt design, context limits, tool calling, token cost |
| Cloud and deployment | Docker, AWS, Azure, or GCP |
| Evaluation | Test sets, failure tracking, hallucination checks |
| Safety | Guardrails, prompt injection defence, access controls |
Since AI works with prompts, someone who can write clear prompts will be able to build a better agent than someone who writes confusing prompts. You also need patience for Debugging. Agents can fail in many ways, so you have to be calm to find that failure. Having business sense can help you too to stand out from others who only have technical knowledge.
Getting Certification from cloud providers and AI course platforms will help freshers. Though you need to build projects to show in your portfolio. Still a certificate helps you.

The AI engineer creates models and integrates AI components. An agentic AI engineer develops systems that are decision-makers, tool-users, and multi-step task-completers with minimum human intervention. The agentic specialization includes orchestration, agent behavior assessment, and safety measures beyond regular AI development.
Yes, there can be some but not many entry-level positions. Freshers generally begin their careers as junior AI developers, automation engineers, and AI analysts. It would help if you had at least two or three projects in your portfolio, where the code is neat, and failures are well-documented. Having a dozen course certificates is of little use.
No degree is mandatory for most builder positions, but degrees are often listed in job postings. The employers want to see good Python knowledge, quality of your project, and debugging ability. The research positions and large firms do prefer a master's degree, so consider it when applying for each job.
Python should be the obvious choice. Virtually all agent frameworks, like LangChain, LangGraph, and CrewAI, have Python implementations. JavaScript/TypeScript is useful if one needs to develop UI, and SQL is important if one works with data. Learn Python before moving on to a second language.
The demand is growing, and salaries are higher than average for many common software jobs. However, the challenges are significant. The technology changes quickly, and frameworks may become obsolete within a year. Job titles are not standardized, and the industry requires constant learning and development of unpredictable systems.
It depends on which job they wish to take. Product managers, business analysts, consultants, and compliance officers can work as AI product, strategy, governance, or implementation specialists. One will need to understand how agents function and fail, but programming experience may not be necessary.
First, start learning the basics of LangChain to get a grip on prompts, tools, and retrievals. Then, move ahead to LangGraph to control the flow and state of the agents. Experiment with multiple agents using CrewAI. Learn just one at a time and finish a project before moving ahead.
Agentic AI will definitely handle routine coding and testing operations. However, there will always be a need for developers who have system, security, and business context knowledge for designing and reviewing the work done by agents. The role of developers might undergo a shift rather than replacement.
If you already know Python well, you could achieve job readiness status within four to six months. A non-programmer would require nine to twelve months. The exact amount of time would depend on the number of hours spent per week, the quality of projects completed, and debugging skills.
Yes, some do provide remote job opportunities, especially startups or products firms that recruit across the cities. Most big firms and global capability centers have a preference for hybrid model where one works 2 to 3 days per week from the office.
Certificates in clouds like Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud are useful for deployment related roles. Course certificates in generative AI or in agent building add value to the resume. They can be used best along with the public projects as only certificates are not enough to prove you can create an agent.
