Accreditation, Number of Students and Faculties
The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) accredits Northern Michigan University. HLC, the institutional accreditation agency, has been recognized by the Education Department of the US. NMU has been accredited since 1916 by HLC. Currently NMU is home to 7600 graduate and undergraduate students. Over 75% of the 300+ faculty members of NMU hold doctorates or equivalent or the highest degree in their respective fields. The student to faculty ratio of the university is 20:1.
University Campus, Facilities, Labs and Courses
The 360 acre main campus of Northern Michigan University features 52 advanced facilities that include a newly-updated university centre, a number of award-winning laboratories, a university theatre, and a three-structure recreation and sports complex. There is a solely dedicated occupational and technology science building and it also includes the superior dome which happens to be the largest wooden dome in the world. The three public broadcasting stations of NMU allow students to enhance their professional skills. Besides the physical campus of the university, the surrounding geographical terrain of NMU serves as an extensive outdoor classroom.

- Applicants with a cumulative GPA of 2.25% in high school will be evaluated on the basis of grades, grade trends, courses studied, the selected academic program and other provided details, which may include test scores submitted by the applicant.
Graduate application
- Applicants seeking admission to the graduate degree courses of NMU must hold a four-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or its equivalent from a foreign institution.
- The applicant must secure a minimum undergraduate grade-point average of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0.
