History of University of Pennsylvania
Penn was founded in 1740 when an idea to construct a charity school and house of worship in Philadelphia first surfaced. Benjamin Franklin penned his well-known essay, "Proposals Relating to the Education of Youth," published it in 1749, distributed it to prominent Philadelphians, and gathered 24 trustees to establish a school of higher education based on his ideas. After purchasing the building, the organization established the Academy and Charitable School in the Province of Pennsylvania, welcoming students from both the working class and the gentry. This was done in 1751. Franklin presided over the organization as president until 1755 and remained a trustee until his passing in 1790.
In the years that followed, Penn established the first medical school in the American colonies (1765), graduated its first class (1757), applied for a collegiate charter (1755), and was later recognized as the first university in the country (1779). The University moved to a new campus in 1802, but by the 1860s had outgrown even that location. As a result, the trustees constructed a new campus in West Philadelphia, a streetcar suburb, in 1872.

Under the direction of associate professor Kaitlin Raimi of the Ford School of Public Policy, the study investigates how Americans view CCU as a possible tool for cutting emissions. History of University of Michigan
The Michigan Territory's governor, Lewis Cass, along with a number of the Territory's judges—who functioned more like legislators than judges—passed a measure creating the University of Michigania, sometimes known as a Catholepistemiad, in Detroit on August 26, 1817. Not nearly the kind of university that U-M is now. It was more akin to a high school before there were high schools, an institution where students might receive further instruction prior to attending one of the few remaining American universities in the 1950s, like Yale, Princeton, or Harvard.
In 1930, the Michigan Supreme Court rendered a ruling holding that the University had existed as a separate legal body from its inception in Detroit to its current form. (In actuality, the decision was made by the same court as early as 1856) The year on the seal was eventually altered after the Board of Regents recognized that decision as final.
Nevertheless, the University celebrated the centennial of its reestablishment in Ann Arbor with a grand celebration in 1937.
Mission: The mission of the university is to serve the people of Michigan and the world by becoming leaders in the creation, dissemination, preservation, and application of knowledge, art, and academic ideals.
Vision: The vision of the University of Michigan is to develop leaders and citizens who will challenge the status quo and contribute to a more positive future.
Core values: The core values of U-M are:
Integrity: The University acts with honesty and takes responsibility of their actions
Respect: They act in a manner that acknowledges the humanity and contributions of each individual.
Inclusion: They establish a setting in which everyone is welcome to engage, feels included, and can contribute.
