1. Go to the official IELTS portal: Visit the official website of IDP IELTS and go to the page on IDP IELTS India Test Centres. Here, you can see the complete list of locations for taking the IELTS exam in India.
2. Search by city: The next step is to browse through the list and search for the city where you live or is closest to your place of residence. The IDP IELTS test centres on the official IELTS portal are arranged alphabetically, city-wise. This makes the search easier. 
3. Choose a preferred IELTS test centre: Select the city where you reside or is closest to you, and you can then view the specific details of the test centre. These include the address, telephone number, and email ID of the centre.

British Council IELTS Test Centres

Until 2021, IELTS applicants could take the exam at British Council IELTS test centres as well. This is because the British Council jointly conducted and managed IELTS with IDP Education. However, in July 2021, IDP secured a 100% stake in the IELTS test and has since been conducting the exam solely. The British Council no longer organizes the IELTS test in India or anywhere else in the world.   

How to Register for IELTS 2025?

The simple process to register for the IELTS exam in 2025 is detailed below:

1. Choose one of the two types of IELTS tests - IELTS Academic or IELTS General Training - as per your preference and specific study-abroad requirements. Also, select the preferred format of the test: paper-based (offline) or computer-delivered (online).  
2. Search for an official IELTS test centre near you. Pick an available test date of your choice, at your convenience.
3. Register on the official portal of IELTS by creating an account on the website. You will need to complete the application process by entering your personal details and other test preferences. 
4. Upload the required identification proof, such as a national ID or a copy of a valid passport on onto the portal. Also, pay the required fee for the exam using the available preferred payment options.
5. Upon completion of all formalities, you will receive a confirmation for the test and further test instructions via email. On receiving the confirmation, you may start your IELTS exam preparations.
