Html Tutorial: The Complete Guide

HTML is a crucial programming language for web development. Its usage is evident in websites while defining headers, footers, and structures. Users can also notice its heavy functions for navigating websites through all the embedded hyperlinks. Tim-Berners-Lee and Robert Cailaiu designed it in 1989.

Every website and webpage uses HTML as one of its major programming languages. HTML functions as the skeleton while CSS acts like the skin, and JavaScript makes up the other essential parts of the body.

If you are searching for an HTML tutorial for beginners, this article will guide you to the basics of the language and the available courses which may deem fit.

What is HTML?

HTML is the short form for HyperText Markup Language, which is used to create web pages and web applications. A hypertext is referred to a text that is applicable for the usage of referencing. A markup language is regarded as a series of markings used in the styling and designing of a document.

HTML consists of two systems – tags and attributes. Examples of tags include <html>, <image>, and the ones we usually see while using a webpage. HTML attributes are mostly the access key, language, title, and data.

What are the different versions of HTML language?

The significance of HTML learning is highly recognised in its various versions, which are as follows:

  • HTML 1.0:

This is the most basic version available, mainly dealing with texts and images. It does not include highly advanced features, and hence, it’s beginner-friendly. The latest versions have new fonts and styles for the basic elements.

  • HTML 2:

This type was created in 1995, to enhance the HTML 1.0 version. It was an improvised version when it came up to the markup tags. HTML 2 can create unique tags, which are browser specified. W3C was also formed to maintain a common standard all across different browsers.

  • HTML 3.2:

HTML 3.2 was introduced in 1997 with a new feature i.e. a more advanced W3C. This version helped form new elements and built-in support for Cascading Style Sheet (CSS). It provided a better styling for the browsers. The type also supported frame tags, unlike other versions.

  • HTML 4.01:

This version brought in an extension to CSS in 1999. Here, the CSS was embedded in the language itself. The external file created a new file in HTML.

  • HTML 5:

It is the latest version created in 2014, built-in with various HTML tag supports.  Few tags include:

  • Email:

A type of form tag, it is used to check the validation of the input value. For instance, this language will identify whether a verified sender has sent the email.

  • Password:

Special symbols are used to protect the password from other browsers.

  • Audio tag:

Adding audio to the web pages is one of the newest features in HTML 5.

  • Semantic tag:

Semantic or structural tags provide a framework for the system. Some examples include <header> and <footer>.

  • Section tag:

This includes a particular portion/section of the webpage.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1How do you save an HTML file?

You can do this in a few simple steps, such as: Open>Save> Save as and then type in the file name. You can select the Print option if you want a hard copy of that file. You would see a .html extension automatically appearing after the file has been saved.

2What is an invalid HTML?

An invalid HTML refers to those links where the element is not functioning smoothly. For instance, the input field is invalid when the required attribute is placed correctly, but the field is empty and holds no meaning.

3What is the main difference between HTML tags and HTML attributes?

HTML attributes are those sections of the webpages which primarily include paragraphs and webpages. For example, a hyperlink can reach you to the website. HTML tags help communicate such attributes and represent the texts with angular brackets.
