Q. What is the Student Direct Stream (SDS)?

Canada is a preferred choice for overseas students because it offers high-quality education at a reasonable price. International students can receive assistance with the necessary study permission through Student Direct Stream (SDS).

An application for a study visa in Canada can now be completed more quickly and effectively thanks to a scheme called Student Direct Stream, or SDS Canada. Hence, if you are a foreign student, SDS Canada will process your application once you provide the required paperwork and biometrics in 20 days.

SDS is provided to international students from over 14 countries. If you reside in any other country, then you need to apply through the regular study permit application process.

Application Process through SDS

To study in Canada, you would need:-

  • An acceptance letter from a designated learning institution (DLI) approved by the provincial/territorial government
  • Language tests (IELTS or TEF scores) taken within 2 years of applying
  • Upfront medical proof
  • $10,000 Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) from listed financial institutions
  • Proof of payment for first-year tuition fees
  • Latest Academic transcripts from secondary or post-secondary education
  • Application submission at a Visa Application Centre (VAC)

Candidates should additionally provide supporting documentation, such as a Temporary Resident Visa form (Schedule 1) and an application for a study permit submitted outside of Canada.

A Port of Entry letter and a Canadian study visa will be granted to the successful candidates, enabling them to enroll in and study full-time for programs lasting at least six months at a DLI. Students can work full- or part-time on campus with a valid study permit. If necessary, by their degree, they can even participate in co-ops or internships.
