What is a CoE code? A CoE code, or Confirmation of Enrolment code, is a unique alphanumeric identifier issued to international students who secure admission to an Australian educational institution. This code appears on the official CoE document, which confirms that the student has accepted their offer, completed the necessary steps, and is formally enrolled in a CRICOS-registered (Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students) course.

Understanding CoE code for student visa applications in Australia is important. The Australian Government requires this code to process a Subclass 500 student visa. 

How to get the CoE? Students must complete their institution’s admission process—typically by accepting the offer, paying the initial deposit, and uploading relevant documents. The university then generates the CoE using PRISMS (Provider Registration and International Student Management System), a government platform that tracks international student enrolments in real time.

You’ll receive the CoE as a PDF, usually by email. It includes:

• Full name and date of birth
• CRICOS course and provider details
• Program start and end dates
• Tuition fee and course duration
• A 10–12 character CoE code

This code must be entered exactly as shown in your visa application to avoid delays or errors.

What is a CoE code also matters after your application. Immigration authorities use it to verify your enrollment and ensure your course meets regulatory standards. 

If you’re enrolling in multiple programs—such as an English language course followed by a degree—you’ll receive a separate CoE for each. All valid codes must be included when applying for a visa.
