IELTS, or the International English Language Testing System, is taken by millions of students every year and serves as proof of English language proficiency for university admissions. The test is recognized by 12,000 organizations in 140 countries. Different versions of the test are available for students with IELTS on a computer, offering more flexibility and convenience. Here are the important IELTS computer-based test dates in India.

Computer Delivered IELTS Test Dates in India

Here are some key details about IELTS computer-based test dates:

  • IELTS on a computer can be taken seven days a week.
  • Test slots are available in the morning, afternoon, and evening, “three times a day.”
  • These test dates are valid for both general training and academic IELTS.

Why take IELTS on Computer

Over the years, different exams have evolved from conventional to completely digital modes. IELTS took a similar initiative with the introduction of computer-based exams. Though students can still opt for pen and paper-based tests, taking IELTS on computers offers a wide range of advantages, including:

  • The convenience to book and attend the exam on any day: Unlike the conventional pen and paper-based exam that was only available for four days a month, the computer-based exam is available for up to 7 days a week, three times a day.  With the conventional mode, your options for test dates were limited. But, taking IELTS on the computer ensures more flexibility and convenience for anyone attempting the exam while still studying or maintaining a full-time job.
  • You can get the results much more quickly than pen and paper-based exams: The results for computer-based IELTS are usually declared within 3-5 days compared to the 13-day wait for pen-and-paper exam results.
  • IELTS on the computer can help you get over the exam in a single day: For pen and paper-based exams, the speaking test is normally scheduled on a different date than the writing, reading, and listening test. However, those taking the computer-based IELTS will have the speaking test on the same day as the writing, reading, and listening test. This can be either before or after the rest of the sections.
  • You don’t have to worry about messy handwriting: The computer-based exam helps you perform better in writing, reading, and listening tests without worrying about bad handwriting.

The content of the test remains the same: The difficulty level of questions and the exam pattern will remain unchanged in the computer-based IELTS exam. The only difference will be that instead of pen and paper, you will use a computer to answer questions.

What’s New with IELTS on Computer

Unlike the IELTS pen and paper test, when you are using a computer, you have some new exciting features that can be used to improve efficiency and performance. Some of these include:

  • You can easily navigate back and forth through the questions while attending the listening and reading section for your IELTS test.
  • The ability to mark and highlight texts and make notes while attempting the exam.
  • You can easily track your word count by looking at the automatic word counters available for the writing test.
  • You can directly copy and save the notes you have made while listening. This helps you to save time.
  • There are slight changes in the timings for the IELTS listening section. You will be given time to read the questions before starting the listening test. After completing the listening test, you will have two minutes to review your answers. Thus, it takes around 30-36 minutes to complete the listening section on your IELTS computer test.
