Indians Receive Highest Number of UK Visas; Increase of 89% in Student Visas

Indian citizens received the highest number of UK students, skilled workers, and visitor visas for the year ending June 2022. As per the official figures published recently by the British government, 1,17,965 Indians received student visas, which is 215% more than in 2019 and 89% more than the previous year. With this, India replaced China in receiving the majority of sponsored study visas in the UK. 

Also, 1,02,981 (46%) work visas were granted to Indians between July 1, 2021, and June 30, 2022. The work visas saw an uptick of 80% compared to 2019. For Indians tourists too, the UK was a popular choice. Indian nationals accounted for the highest proportion with 28% i.e. 258,000 visitor visas. 

Commenting on the development, British High Commissioner Alex Ellis said in a statement, “India first again. I’m delighted that Indian nationals were issued the largest number of UK study, work, and visitor visas in the year ending June 2022. More strength to the unique living bridge that connects our people.”

“As this shows, we’re experiencing an unprecedented demand for visas. I encourage students starting courses soon to apply as early as possible.” Ellis added.
