Zutshi-Smith Scholarship

The Zutshi-Smith Scholarship is offered by the University of Bristol, UK, to PhD candidates. The scholarship is available for up to a maximum of four study years in all fields/disciplines. The Zutshi-Smith Scholarship for Indian students helps them pursue PhD programs at the University of Bristol.

Eligibility 

The Zutshi-Smith Scholarship eligibility criteria include the following: 

• Study offer from the University of Bristol for a PhD program. 
• Resident of India with preference given to those with Kashmiri origins. 
• Current students and those in all study fields can apply (provided the course is available at the University of Bristol). 

Benefits 

The scholarship covers tuition costs, and gives an annual stipend for living costs. This stood at £15,609 for 2021-22 and is sanctioned as per UKRI funding levels. There is also coverage for research expenditure and a return flight from/to India. Accommodation may be available at the Wills Hall of the institution only for the first study year. The living stipend will be lowered if this option is chosen. 

How to Apply? 

If you were thinking of how to apply for Zutshi-Smith Scholarship, then you should keep the following in mind: 

• Mention on your application form the course that you wish to be in consideration for this scholarship. 
• The nomination form will be done by the program lead accordingly. Always ensure they have ample time prior to the deadline. 
• Postgraduate Admission Tutors and Programme Directors desirous of nominating any PhD aspirant for this scholarship should finish the nomination form and submit the same to their Faculty PGR Directors within 19th April (as it was in 2022).

Important Dates (timeline) 

The nomination forms should be sent by the tutors and directors by the midday of April 19. This was the deadline for the last batch of applications in 2022. 

Selection 

The faculty PGR (postgraduate research) directors will be short-listing their top three aspirants and send the same to the Student Funding Office. The successful aspirants will be finally chosen by the Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor with two of his/her colleagues. One application for each applicant is allowed, with the selection decision of the Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor being final. Successful applicants will be informed and advised by the Student Funding Office in May (it was May 24, 2022 for the previous batch).
