NIT Delhi is one of the 31 National Institutes of Technology in India, designated as an "Institute of National Importance." It was established by an Act of Parliament in 2010. The institute's academic activities initially began at NIT Warangal and later shifted to its transit campus in Narela, Delhi, before moving to its permanent campus.
NIT Delhi offers a range of undergraduate (B.Tech) and postgraduate (M.Tech) programs. The B.Tech programs include Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), and Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE), among others. The M.Tech specializations are offered in fields like Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Civil Engineering. The institute also offers a Ph.D. program.
For B.Tech admission, candidates must qualify for the JEE Main examination and participate in the JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) counseling process. Seats are allotted based on the student's JEE Main rank. For M.Tech programs, admission is based on scores from the GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) examination, followed by CCMT (Centralized Counselling for M.Tech/M.Arch/M.Plan/M.Des) counseling.
The fee structure for B.Tech students at NIT Delhi varies depending on family income and category. The total B.Tech fee for the entire four-year duration is approximately ₹6.44 lakhs. The tuition fee for general category students with a family income of more than ₹5 LPA is around ₹64,500 per semester, but this can be significantly reduced for students with lower family incomes and for those from SC/ST/PwD categories.
NIT Delhi has a strong placement record, especially in the CSE and ECE branches. The institute has seen consistent growth in placements. In the 2023-24 placement drive, the highest package offered was ₹82 LPA, with the average package being around ₹17.72 LPA. Top recruiters include major companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Adobe, and Goldman Sachs.
Despite being a newer NIT, the institute has a vibrant campus life. It offers various student clubs covering a wide range of interests, including arts, culture, photography, technical activities, and social reform. The campus also hosts inter-college festivals and events, providing students with opportunities for extracurricular engagement and personal development.
NIT Delhi boasts a decent faculty-to-student ratio, which allows for good student-faculty interaction. The majority of the faculty members hold Ph.D. degrees from prestigious institutions like IITs and NITs. They are generally considered well-qualified, approachable, and committed to academic excellence and research.
NIT Delhi provides residential facilities for its students. The boys' hostels are located within the main campus, while the girls' hostel is off-campus in Rohini, with transportation provided. The hostels are equipped with essential amenities, and a separate mess serves meals.
NIT Delhi consistently ranks among the top engineering colleges in India. In the NIRF 2024 Engineering rankings, NIT Delhi was placed at 45th position. It is also often ranked in the top 50 in other reputable surveys and publications, recognizing its growing academic and research reputation.
NIT Delhi has a modern and growing campus infrastructure. The campus is spread over 51 acres and includes state-of-the-art laboratories, a well-stocked central library, a supercomputer (PARAM Shavak), modern classrooms, and various sports facilities. The campus is Wi-Fi enabled and provides essential amenities for students.
NIT Delhi is located in the Narela area of Delhi. The campus is situated on Plot No. FA7, Zone P1, GT Karnal Road. It is well-connected by road and is approximately 12 km from the Jahangirpuri Metro Station (on the Yellow Line) and 38 km from the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
