VNIT Nagpur, originally known as Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering (VRCE), was established in 1960. It was declared an Institute of National Importance in 2007 under the NIT Act.
The 225-acre campus is located near Ambazari Lake in western Nagpur, about 7 km from the railway station and 8 km from the airport. The institute features hostels, well-equipped academic blocks, extensive sports grounds, a gym, an auditorium, a medical center, a library, a bank/ATM, a post office, and more.
VNIT offers:
Undergraduate: B.Tech in eight engineering disciplines (Computer Science, ECE, EEE, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Metallurgy, Mining) and B.Arch
Postgraduate: M.Tech, M.Sc, M.Arch, and Ph.D. programs across engineering, architecture, sciences, and humanities.
B.Tech: Through JEE Main scores, followed by JoSAA counseling—no direct or lateral entries allowed
M.Tech: Based on GATE scores via CCMT counseling
M.Sc: Admission via JAM exam and centralized counseling
Foreign students can apply under the DASA scheme, often assessed based on SAT Subject Test scores.
For 2025, the estimated total cost is around ₹8.11 lakh, which includes tuition (₹5 lakh), hostel & mess (₹0.64 lakh/year), and other charges (~₹0.15 lakh).

Placement percentage: varies by branch (e.g., CSE ~93%, Civil ~42%)
Over 1,000 students were placed in 2023, with 238 visiting recruiters and top companies like Accenture, Amazon, Goldman Sachs, etc.
VNIT offers a mix of institutional, government, and private scholarships based on merit and category. Students must apply via the institute’s official portal.
Hostel buildings: Multiple for both boys (7–10) and girls (2–4)
Room allocation: Shared initially; single occupancy from 2nd year onward
Amenities: Beds, desks, LAN, heating/cooling, CCTV, mess with veg/non-veg options, recreation hall, high-speed internet, and library.
Aarohi: Annual cultural fest started in 1989, spanning 3 days and drawing large crowds
AXIS: Science & Technology fest
Other fests include Consortium (entrepreneurship), departmental fests like Symposium and Chemix, and an active E-Cell for startups and innovation.
Students appreciate VNIT’s central location and vibrant campus life. As one alumnus noted:
“Campus is big and cozy... single occupancy room since 3rd year... excellent sports facilities... swimming pool inside campus... food, people, and amenities all very accessible.”
Nagpur itself is inclusive, multilingual, and offers a variety of cafés, eateries, and recreation within walking distance of the campus.
