Scholarships & Schemes 2025

The University adopts the Scholarship Schemes of the Government of India and Government of Maharashtra for students falling under Scheduled Cast (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Other Backwards Classes (OBC), Special Backwards Classes (SBC), Vimukta Jati and Nomadic Tribe (VJNT), Poor Class from the General Category for pursuing higher education. The prominent Schemes are –

National Service Scheme

The University introduced the National Service Scheme (NSS) in 2006. Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University is the pioneering Open University to have been bestowed the honour of introducing the National Service Scheme among all National and State-level Open Universities. The activities of NSS are primarily focused on –

1. Increasing women's enrollment in education and integrating them into the mainstream of education.

2. Generating social awareness, comprehension in society and inducing people to take up collective efforts to eliminate problems.

3. Building leadership traits and skills among students and equipping them with the capacity to lead people for socially beneficial purposes.

4. Weakening the social evils such as dowry, superstitions, tobacco & alcohol usage, etc.

5. Building the personality of students with a social orientation, attitude & philanthropic nature.

The NSS units have planned different activities in the areas according to social & economic conditions and the needs of local people. These conditions are area & region-wise different, and therefore area & conditions-based activities are prioritised. Some of the prominent activities are

1. Generation of awareness regarding the need for cleanliness & inducing people to join the cleanliness drive.

2. Women empowerment programs, girls & women education, and avoidance of child labour.

3. Conservation of the environment, plantation of trees, conservation of water resources & safeguarding them from any form of pollution, prohibition on the use of plastics & embracing environmentally friendly ways of living.

4. Blood donation camps, Eye donation camps & general health awareness camps

There are 2,700 NSS units in all 8 regions, and activities are planned in the locality and study centre area. The University gets a grant from the Government of Maharashtra for running different socially useful activities through the National Service Scheme.
