According to PitchBook's 2024 university rankings, the University of Waterloo is #1 in Canada and #21 globally for producing startup founders. Waterloo has a strong entrepreneurial culture supported by incubators like Velocity and the Problem Lab.

According to THE Rankings 2025, the University of British Columbia (UBC) is ranked #53 globally in Arts and Humanities, while the University of Waterloo falls within the 301–400 bracket. This difference suggests that UBC offers a stronger reputation and more comprehensive resources in the arts and humanities disciplines compared to the University of Waterloo.

The University of Waterloo is ranked 201-250 for medicine in THE rankings 2025, whereas McGill University is ranked #29. McGill has a well-established medical school, extensive research opportunities, and strong hospital affiliations, making it the better choice for a career in medicine.
