NIT Hamirpur Overview: 2025 Admissions, Cutoffs, Placements, Campus, and Student Life.

NIT Hamirpur was founded on 7 August 1986 as Regional Engineering College (REC) Hamirpur and began classes in a temporary polytechnic campus. It moved to its current 320-acre hilly-location campus in 1987. REC Hamirpur was upgraded to a National Institute of Technology (NIT) in June 2002, and later declared an Institute of National Importance by Parliament in 2007.

The institute offers a wide academic portfolio: 

• Undergraduate: B.Tech in disciplines such as Civil, CSE, Chemical, ECE, Mechanical, Electrical, Materials Science & Engineering, and Architecture.

• Postgraduate: M.Tech, M.Sc (Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics), M.Arch, and MBA. 

• Doctoral: Ph.D. in engineering, sciences, architecture, management, and humanities. 
  It encompasses 13 departments along with a Centre for Energy Studies.

NIT Hamirpur sits at an altitude of ~900 m on a scenic 320-acre hilly campus surrounded by pine forests. It’s approximately 4 km from the town’s bus stand, with rail connectivity via Una (~80 km) and air access via Gaggal Airport (~75 km) or Chandigarh (~200 km).

NIT Hamirpur is fully residential, housing students across 8 boys’ hostels and 4 girls’ hostels. • Himgiri: Newer, mostly single/double rooms, lifts, and indoor/outdoor game halls. 
• Udaygiri & Neelkanth: Comfortable newer buildings, spacious rooms, gaming corridors. 

Girls’ hostels range from AGH for juniors to more private accommodations like Aravali and Satpura.

Admission is fully entrance-based: 

• B.Tech/B.Arch: Through JEE Main scores via JoSAA/CSAB counseling.  

• M.Tech/M.Arch: Via GATE through CCMT; non-GATE seats filled via spot procedures.  

• M.Sc.: Through JAM, via centralized counseling. 

• MBA: Accepted exams include CAT/MAT/CMAT/GMAT. 

• Ph.D.: Selection involves GATE/UGC NET/CSIR NET (institution-specific rules apply).
