IIT Ropar is one of the newer IITs in India, established in 2008.  IIT Ropar was placed 22nd among engineering colleges in the country by NIRF Rankings 2024. And in the overall Times Higher Education World Rankings 2025, it is placed in the 801-1000 band. Details

    Benefits: Rs. 1000 per month for general category students, and the recipient is exempted from paying the tuition fee.

    Eligibility: 4-year B.Tech. Students are eligible to receive Merit-cum-Means scholarship at the time of joining the Institute. The criterion of merit for the first year is All India Rank (AIR) in the JEE.

Campus, Hostel & Student Life

Location: Rupnagar, Punjab

IIT Ropar's transit campus has smart classrooms, faculty offices, and labs. It includes three hostels with modern dining facilities. The campus also has all basic administrative and academic setups. A new 500-acre permanent campus with improved infrastructure is being built near the Satluj River for future operations.

Hostel 

  • IIT Ropar has seven hostels for students—four for boys (Beas, Satluj, Brahmaputra Boys, Chenab) and three for girls (Raavi, Brahmaputra Girls, T6).
  • Around 3,000 students can stay in these hostels with proper living and dining facilities.
  • Each hostel has water coolers, RO systems, and a common room with indoor games.
  • Shops inside the hostel area provide daily essentials, and washing machines are also available.
