 The Institute was formed in 1960 as Karnataka Regional Engineering College (KREC), and was upgraded to National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) in 2002.

To gain a successful NIT Surathkal Admission in 2025 in any of the courses offered,  

The following steps are mandatory :  

1. Register for relevant entrance exams (JEE, Nimcet, etc.) 

2. Appear for the entrance test 

3. Check eligibility and cutoff scores 

4. Apply via institute or centralized portals (JoSAA, COAP, etc.) 

5. Attend written test/interview (if applicable) 

6. Receive admission offer 

7. Pay admission fees online 

8. Complete document verification

Scholarships

To support the students studying at NIT Surathkal, the following scholarships are provided for financial aid :

A. National Scholarship for Higher Education

Eligibility - Annual Family Income less than Rs. 2.50 Lakhs

Fee Waiver - Tuition Fees and Rs. 3000 as living expenses allowance.

B. WeMake Scholars Scholarship

Eligibility - Students planning to study abroad within the next 12 months and including a test including verbal and logical aptitude.

Fee Waiver- Up to Rs. 2 Crore as Scholarship

C. TVS Cheema Scholarship

Eligibility - For students studying in NIT Surathkal, and only from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

Fee Waiver - Interest-free studying support in the form of loans.

D. National Scholarship Portal Scholarship

Eligibility - SC and ST Students only.

Fee Waiver - Complete Tuition Fee waiver off.
