IIIT Kalyani is recognized as an Institute of National Importance under the IIIT (PPP) Act, 2017. It was established under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, in collaboration with the Government of West Bengal and industry partners like Coal India Ltd., Rolta Foundation, and WEBEL.

B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) , B.Tech. in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) , B.Tech. in CSE (AI & Data Science) , and B.Tech. in CSE (Cybersecurity). The two CSE specializations are commencing from 2025.

The institute is constructing a permanent campus on 34 acres in Kalyani, West Bengal, which is nearing Phase-I completion. The campus is designed for academic and research excellence, featuring state-of-the-art infrastructure, including academic blocks, hostels, laboratories, a 5G testbed under a DoT national initiative, and a green environment. The institute also has computer labs located at Webel IT Park.
