IIT Kharagpur, also known as IIT KGP, is based in West Bengal. The institute spreads across 2100 acres, which makes it the largest campus facility among all the other IITs in India. The Institute was established as the first institute of technology in the country in May 1950. The journey of IIT KGP started in the Hijli Detention camp, where some of the great firefighters sacrificed their lives for the nation.

In the present day, IIT Kharagpur is one of the most sought-after technology institutes for candidates, with an NIRF Ranking of 5. The institute provides programs across multiple disciplines, such as Architecture and Engineering, and has also introduced the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) from the 2023-24 session.

Campus, Hostel & Student Life

IIT Kharagpur has the largest campus of all the other IITs in the Country. The campus has residential facilities for over 10,000 students. The hostels of the institute are called Halls of Residence. There are 21 Halls of Residence, 16 for boys and 5 for girls. Patel Hall of residence, built in 1952, is the first IIT Hostel all over India.

Zakir Hussain Hall provides accommodation for the families of married Scholars. The Halls provide their residents with facilities such as High Speed LAN, Wi-Fi, and 24-hour electricity.
