The Student Placement Office (SPO) at IIT Kanpur facilitates smooth interactions between students and employers, operating through a placement process grounded in transparency and prioritising the needs of students, with alumni like N.R Narayana Murthy (Founder, Infosys) and Dr. Ashoke Sem (Theoretical Physicist), who reflect the reputation of the institute. The 2024-24 placement season has once again demonstrated IIT Kanpur’s leadership in nurturing top-tier talent for global roles.

Placements Phase-I 2024-25

The phase-in of IIT Kanpur’s 2024 25 placement season took place from December 1 to 15, 2024, which saw us extend 1,109 offers across many industries. Out of which 1,035 offers were accepted, including Pre-Placement Offers. We also saw 28 international offers, which is a 27% increase from last year. Over 250 companies participate, which is a reflection of the institute’s strong industry connection and global demand for IIT talent.

IIT Kanpur First Week of Placement Phase-1

By the end of the first week, IIT Kanpur reported 1,036 job offers, which included 963 acceptances, including PPOs. This is a mark of IITK’s strong academic base and industry relevance. 22 students secured international offers, and we also saw a large spectrum of sectors and companies in the placement pool.

IIT Kanpur Day 1 of Campus Placements

IIT Kanpur broke up the Phase-I placement drive on Day 1, which saw 579 offers, out of which 199 were PPOs. In total, 523 students got placed, and 13 secured international job offers. On the first day, we saw 74 companies participate, which is a telltale of recruiters’ confidence in IITK’s student body.

IIT Kanpur Placements Process & Timeline

The placement process at IIT Kanpur is structured and student-centric; the placement process is designed to ensure a smooth process through the coordination between the students and recruiters. The placement process includes resume submission, pre-placement talk and interviews, which helps students with their job selection. 

  1. Registration & Resume Submission

During the placement process, first, students need to register on the Students Placement Office (SPO) portal, submit their resumes. After resume submission, the company shortlist the candidate based on requirements and skills.

  • Wait for the shortlisting by the recruiters.
  1. Pre-Placement Talks and Tests

The company conducts the pre-placement talks on campus or virtually to explain the job roles, company policy and requirements, expectations and growth opportunities. The company talk about the placement process, which includes aptitude tests or coding assessments for evaluation. 

  1. Interviews & Offers

The candidates who clear the tests which was conducted by the company are invited for the interview rounds. If interview rounds get cleared, the candidate will receive the Offer Letter on the Students' Placement Office (SPO) portal.

Placement Timeline

IIT Kanpur’s placement season is divided into internship and final placement phases. The placement typically begins in August and continues till May of the next year, ensuring the recruitment opportunities across sectors for all eligible students.

The final placement process for the graduating students begins in December (Phase I) till April (Phase II). Companies across the globe participate, offering roles in diverse sectors.

IIT Kanpur has a formal placement process to ensure that its students are available for equal opportunity to all companies. The policy is intended to preserve discipline, professionalism and opportunities for placement in various departments.

Key Rules for students:

  • Registration Requirement: All students must register with the SPO to be eligible.
  • CV Authenticity: Student agrees to share honest and real information on the CV
  • Accepting an Offer: Once a student has accepted an offer, the student is not eligible to participate in additional interviews.
  • Standards of Practice: If your performance is unsatisfactory or if you violate any placement rule, you may be dismissed from this job.
  • PPO Policy: The students with PPOs shall immediately inform the SPO.
