Master of Occupational Health and Safety at RMIT University

The Graduate Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety equips you with the knowledge and skills to identify, prevent and manage complex and diverse health risks, hazards and exposures. You will develop a deep understanding of best practices when implementing and evaluating risk management interventions within a broad range of workplace and community environments. Due to the rapid growth in this field, the skills and knowledge you develop through this certificate can open doors to a range of career opportunities from occupational hygiene and compliance to construction safety, human factors and ergonomics.

This program is assessed by both a research project and the completion of five courses. The research project is in medical or health physics, and is examined by thesis. The program is accredited by the Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM) as an approved postgraduate qualification forming a compulsory component of the requirements to become a certified medical physicist.

Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) refers to the application of scientific principles to understand the risks to the safety and health of people in workplaces and to take action to control these. Occupational health and safety is a multidisciplinary profession examining the technical and social aspects of work with applications in most industries and commerce. The course focuses on the science and technology of risk management through assessment and evaluation of hazards and development of specific control mechanisms.
