Q. How much bank balance is required for a UK Student?

Acquiring a UK Student visa mandates the financial capability to cover your course fees and living expenses. The 28-day rule is paramount, mandating the specified amount of money to be held for a consecutive 28-day period, with the end date falling within 31 days of your visa application.

Financial Requirements

  1. Course Fee: You must have a full tuition fee for the present year of your course specified in your CAS. Yet, if you've maintained a valid UK visa for at least 12 months before applying, there's no need to demonstrate financial capability.
  2. Maintenance and Living Costs: The amount required varies based on your study location:
  • £1,334 per month for courses in London (up to 9 months).
  • £1,023 per month for courses outside London (up to 9 months).

Documents Needed to show your financial capability

Evidence of your funds must meet specific requirements and may differ based on whether you are officially sponsored or self-funded.

Official Financial Sponsorship

If sponsored, provide a document:

On the official letterhead.

  • Include your complete name, sponsor's information, issuance date, and sponsorship duration.
  • Affirming the monthly amount or comprehensive coverage for tuition fees and living expenses.
  • For government sponsors, permission to stay or re-entry into the UK is necessary.

Self-funded or Parent-funded Students

For personal funds, provide bank statements fulfilling the following criteria:

  • In your name or your parents' name.
  • Showing the required amount for a full 28 days.
  • Dated within one month of your application.
  • Displaying account details and logo.
  • Birth certificate and a letter from parents if using parents' account.

Low-risk Nationalities

If you are from a 'Low Risk' nationality, you won't submit financial documents with your application but may be asked later. Provide requested evidence promptly to avoid a visa refusal.
