India’s beleaguered $150 billion IT services industry is facing an existential crisis. This is due to the erosion of its competitive edge by automation and robotics.
However, on May 18, 2017, NASSCOM, the IT industry’s trade association, decided to clear the air and set the record straight. Indian IT does face significant headwinds – industry leaders conceded, and insist that the sector will remain a major net hirer adding about 1,50,000 to its workforce in 2018. However, last year, the industry hired around 1,70,000 new workers. A dip in overall employment figures is inevitable.
