2016 has been a fantastic year at UpGrad. From enrolling our 1000th student to launching our first community centre, the year was filled with highs. As we draw this year to a close, here is a quick review of what made the year epic.
PITCHED TO PERFECTION
On July 2, top 9 students from our Entrepreneurship program were selected to pitch their business idea to a panel of early-stage investors of the country.
PARTNERED WITH GOVERNMENT OF INDIA
We got selected as the official education partner for Govt of India’s ‘Start-up India’ learning programme, where we offered our entrepreneurship program in 2 languages, Hindi and English to budding entrepreneurs of India.
SURPRISE FROM RONNIE
Getting caught in an elevator with an investor is every entrepreneur’s dream. UpGrad made it a reality for 4 students from our entrepreneurship program. 90 seconds in an elevator with Ronnie Screwvala was all they had.
A TEAM OF 100
We turned one in March 2016 and ever since our team has been rapidly growing. We’re now a strong family of 100+ diligent and passionate members committed to designing the best learning experience in the world.
KILLED A PROGRAM
After running 4 successful programs in several cohorts, we thought we knew how it’s done. But even after extensive research, we eventually had to kill our Android Program.
ONLINE GRADUATION CEREMONY
The completion of the first cohort of our Entrepreneurship Program was marked with a one-of-its-kind online graduation ceremony, completed with an incentive to remember their alma-mater.
A 1000 LEARNERS
Our programs have quickly gained popularity proving that pay-for-education model does really work. This was further reinstated when we reached 1000 students, of which 300 made an upfront payment of INR 2 Lakhs.
SAID IT OUT LOUD
We launched our first brand campaign and took over radio and print media in Bengaluru. The success of this campaign was marked by an immense number of enquiries and applications received by us.
UPGRAD XCHANGE WHERE SHARP MINDS MEET
With more than 50 events conducted so far and many more to come, our newly launched
offline centre in Bengaluru is the perfect destination for working professionals to ideate, collaborate and network.
And finally..
INDIA’S BIGGEST ANALYTICS ROADSHOW
Launched on December 3, the UpGrad & IIIT-B Analytics Roadshow has so far covered 4 cities through 15 events with 20+ industry experts and there is more coming up in this roadshow till February 11.

We are all set to make 2017 a bigger success by launching new programs, scaling existing ones, building a stronger presence in India and taking programs to international students.
